Identification of inhibitors of the Salmonella FraB deglycase, a drug target

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A high‐throughput screen was used to identify inhibitors of Salmonella FraB, a drug target. Characterization of top hits (identified after an additional counter screen) revealed that some triazolidines, thiadiazolidines, and triazolothiadiazoles are mixed‐type inhibitors of FraB.

ApoA-I Milano stimulates lipolysis in adipose cells independently of cAMP/PKA activation

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2015
ApoA-I, the main protein component of HDL, is suggested to be involved in metabolic homeostasis. We examined the effects of Milano, a naturally occurring ApoA-I variant, about which little mechanistic information is available.

A personalized model and optimization strategy for estimating blood glucose concentrations from sweat measurements [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv
Background and objective: Diabetes is one of the four leading causes of death worldwide, necessitating daily blood glucose monitoring. While sweat offers a promising non-invasive alternative for glucose monitoring, its application remains limited due to the low to moderate correlation between sweat and blood glucose concentrations, which has been ...

Enhancing Blood Glucose Prediction with Meal Absorption and Physical Exercise Information [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Objective: Numerous glucose prediction algorithm have been proposed to empower type 1 diabetes (T1D) management. Most of these algorithms only account for input such as glucose, insulin and carbohydrate, which limits their performance. Here, we present a novel glucose prediction algorithm which, in addition to standard inputs, accounts for meal ...

LRP1 facilitates hepatic glycogenesis by improving the insulin signaling pathway in HFD‐fed mice

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine
Background LDL receptor‐related protein‐1 (LRP1) is a cell‐surface receptor that functions in diverse physiological pathways. We previously demonstrated that hepatocyte‐specific LRP1 deficiency (hLRP1KO) promotes diet‐induced insulin resistance and ...

Acacetin reduces endoplasmic reticulum stress through the P‐eNOS/PERK signaling pathway to attenuate MGO‐induced vascular endothelial cell dysfunction

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We investigated a potential protective effect of acacetin, a naturally occurring flavonoid, against methylglyoxal (MGO)‐induced endothelial dysfunction in human umbilical vein endothelial cells and its mechanism of action. Acacetin can could inhibit MGO‐induced intracellular calcium ion influx, enhance the expression levels of phosphorylated ...

Integrated multi-omics analysis and machine learning refine molecular subtypes and clinical outcome for hepatocellular carcinoma

open access: yesHereditas
The high morbidity and mortality of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) impose a substantial economic burden on patients’ families and society, and the majority of HCC patients are detected at advanced stages and experience poor therapeutic outcomes, whereas ...

The relationship between the ratio of non-high-density lipoprotein cholesterol to high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (NHHR) and both MASLD and advanced liver fibrosis: evidence from NHANES 2017–2020

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition
BackgroundThe non-HDL-C to HDL-C ratio (NHHR) is a dependable lipid marker linked to atherosclerotic traits. This study examines the potential relationship between NHHR and both metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) and ...

Red blood cells could protect miRNAs from degradation or loss thanks to Argonaute 2 binding

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The present work investigates the presence and the stability of miRNAs into RBCs, both native and engineered. The observed stability is due to the Ago2 bound resulting in minimal RISC. Indeed, if the miRNA‐Ago2 complex is present, miRNAs are protected from release or degradation and they are biologically active. Thus, RBCs can act as miRNA carriers for
