Determination of ADP/ATP translocase isoform ratios in malignancy and cellular senescence

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The individual functions of three isoforms exchanging ADP and ATP (ADP/ATP translocases; ANTs) on the mitochondrial membrane remain unclear. We developed a method for quantitatively differentiating highly similar human ANT1, ANT2, and ANT3 using parallel reaction monitoring. This method allowed us to assess changes in translocase levels during cellular

Autoimmune thyroid disease and ovarian hypofunction: a review of literature

open access: yesJournal of Ovarian Research
Thyroid hormones(THs) are essential for the proper functioning of the ovaries, and multiple studies have shown that thyroid abnormalities, especially during adolescence and reproductive age, can lead to lifelong ovarian dysfunction.

Association between cognitive performance and cortical glucose metabolism in patients with mild Alzheimer's disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Background: Neuronal and synaptic function in Alzheimer's disease (AD) is measured in vivo by glucose metabolism using positron emission tomography (PET). Objective: We hypothesized that neuronal activation as measured by PET is a more sensitive index of

Early metastasis is characterized by Gr1+ cell dysregulation and is inhibited by immunomodulatory nanoparticles

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Breast cancer metastasis is associated with myeloid cell dysregulation and the lung‐specific accumulation of tumor‐supportive Gr1+ cells. Gr1+ cells support metastasis, in part, through a CHI3L1‐mediated mechanism, which can be targeted and inhibited with cargo‐free, polymeric nanoparticles.

Association between thyroid function and thyroid homeostasis parameters and the prevalence and all-cause and cardiovascular mortality of chronic kidney disease: a population-based study

open access: yesBMC Public Health
Background To evaluate the relationship between thyroid function and thyroid homeostasis parameters with the prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and furtherly explore the all-cause and cardiovascular mortality among individuals with CKD using data

Association of Sleep Duration With Incident Carotid Plaque: A Prospective Cohort Study

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease
Background Sleep is an important determinant of cardiovascular health. We sought to investigate the longitudinal association between sleep duration and incident carotid plaque in a rural Chinese population.

ApoA-I Milano stimulates lipolysis in adipose cells independently of cAMP/PKA activation

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2015
ApoA-I, the main protein component of HDL, is suggested to be involved in metabolic homeostasis. We examined the effects of Milano, a naturally occurring ApoA-I variant, about which little mechanistic information is available.

BMP antagonist CHRDL2 enhances the cancer stem‐cell phenotype and increases chemotherapy resistance in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Overexpression of CHRDL2 in colon cancer cells makes them more stem‐like and resistant to chemo‐ and radiotherapy. CHRDL2‐high cells have upregulation of the WNT pathway, genes involved in the DNA damage response (DDR) pathway and epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT). This leads to quicker repair of damaged DNA and more cell migration.

A DIA‐MS‐based proteomics approach to find potential serum prognostic biomarkers in glioblastoma patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A DIA‐MS‐based proteomics analysis of serum samples from GB patients and healthy controls showed that high levels of IL1R2 and low levels of CRTAC1 and HRG in serum are associated with poor survival outcomes for GB patients. These circulating proteins could serve as biomarkers for the prediction of outcome in patients with GB.
