Neonatal overfeeding in mice aggravates the development of methionine and choline-deficient diet-induced steatohepatitis in adulthood

open access: yesGenes and Diseases, 2019
Overfeeding in early life is associated with obesity and insulin resistance in adulthood. In the present study, a well-characterized mouse model was used to investigate whether neonatal overfeeding increases susceptibility to the development of non ...

The classification of obesity based on metabolic status redefines the readmission of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma—an observational study

open access: yesCancer & Metabolism, 2023
Background The relationship between obesity and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL) was controversial, which may be due to the crudeness definition of obesity based on body mass index (BMI).

The Sulfonylurea Drug, Glimepiride, Stimulates Glucose Transport, Glucose Transporter Translocation, and Dephosphorylation In Insulin-Resistant Rat Adipocytes In Vitro [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
Sulfonylurea drugs are widely used in the therapy of NIDDM. The improvement of glucose tolerance after long-term treatment of NIDDM patients with the drug can be explained by stimulation of glucose utilization in peripheral tissues that are characterized

The carboxylate “gripper” of the substrate is critical for C‐4 stereo‐inversion by UDP‐glucuronic acid 4‐epimerase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
UDP‐glucuronic acid 4‐epimerase (UGAepi) catalyzes NAD+‐dependent interconversion of UDP‐glucuronic acid (UDP‐GlcA) and UDP‐galacturonic acid (UDP‐GalA) via C4‐oxidation, 4‐keto‐intermediate rotation, and C4‐reduction. Here, Borg et al. examined the role of the substrate's carboxylate group in the enzymic mechanism by analyzing NADH‐dependent reduction

The thioredoxin‐like and one glutaredoxin domain are required to rescue the iron‐starvation phenotype of HeLa GLRX3 knock out cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Glutaredoxin (Grx) 3 proteins contain a thioredoxin domain and one to three class II Grx domains. These proteins play a crucial role in iron homeostasis in eukaryotic cells. In human Grx3, at least one of the two Grx domains, together with the thioredoxin domain, is essential for its function in iron metabolism.

Glucose Management Indicator (GMI): A New Term for Estimating A1C From Continuous Glucose Monitoring

open access: yesDiabetes Care, 2018
While A1C is well established as an important risk marker for diabetes complications, with the increasing use of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) to help facilitate safe and effective diabetes management, it is important to understand how CGM metrics,

Kinetic Determination of Glucose Concentrations with Glucose Dehydrogenase [PDF]

open access: yesClinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine, 1977
A manual version and mechanized versions for several types of analyzers are described for the kinetic determination of glucose with glucose dehydrogenase. Results of glucose determinations with and without deproteinization of samples are discussed. The correlation of results with the hexokinase method is shown.

Spectral tracing of deuterium for imaging glucose metabolism. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Cells and tissues often display pronounced spatial and dynamical metabolic heterogeneity. Common glucose-imaging techniques report glucose uptake or catabolism activity, yet do not trace the functional utilization of glucose-derived anabolic products ...

In vivo evidence for glycyl radical insertion into a catalytically inactive variant of pyruvate formate‐lyase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Dimeric pyruvate formate‐lyase cleaves pyruvate using a radical‐based mechanism. G734 serves as a radical storage location, and the radical is transferred to the catalytic C419 residue. Mutation of the C418‐C419 pair causes loss of enzyme activity, but does not impede radical introduction onto G734. Therefore, cis‐ but not trans‐radical transfer occurs

The Progress of Glucose Monitoring—A Review of Invasive to Minimally and Non-Invasive Techniques, Devices and Sensors

open access: yesItalian National Conference on Sensors, 2019
Current glucose monitoring methods for the ever-increasing number of diabetic people around the world are invasive, painful, time-consuming, and a constant burden for the household budget.
