Recovery potential in glucose deprived astrocytes

Neuroscience Research, 1996
D-glucose deprivation for a 45 min period reduces the ATP and creatine phosphate concentrations of astrocytes. Recovery experiments were initiated by reincubating the cells with D-glucose and glucose replacement metabolites. No recovery of ATP concentration could be obtained even after 1 h of reincubation with the replacement metabolites.

Moderate Glucose Deprivation Preconditions Myocardium Against Infarction

Hormone and Metabolic Research, 2005
Glucose-free perfusion preconditions myocardium against the consequences of subsequent ischemia. We investigated whether mitochondrial ATP-sensitive potassium (mK (ATP)) channels are involved in preconditioning by glucose deprivation, and whether moderate glucose deprivation also preconditions myocardium. Isolated rat hearts underwent 30 min of no-flow

Tibolone protects T98G cells from glucose deprivation

The Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2014
The steroidal drug Tibolone is used for the treatment of climacteric symptoms and osteoporosis in post-menopausal women. Although Tibolone has been shown to exert neuroprotective actions after middle cerebral artery occlusion, its specific actions on glial cells have received very little attention. In the present study we have assessed whether Tibolone

Calcitonin Potentiates Oxygen–Glucose Deprivation-Induced Neuronal Death

Experimental Neurology, 2001
Calcitonin is a hormone that decreases plasma calcium through inhibition of osteolysis. It is used in the treatment of osteoporosis and other bone disorders. Salmon calcitonin is typically utilized in individuals for whom use of estrogen is contraindicated, for example, women at high risk for breast cancer.

Intracellular Glucose‐Depriving Polymer Micelles for Antiglycolytic Cancer Treatment

Advanced Materials, 2023
AbstractA new anticancer strategy to exploit abnormal metabolism of cancer cells rather than to merely control the drug release or rearrange the tumor microenvironment is reported. An antiglycolytic amphiphilic polymer, designed considering the unique metabolism of cancer cells (Warburg effect) and aimed at the regulation of glucose metabolism, is ...

Triacylglycerol metabolism in hypoxic, glucose-deprived rat cardiomyocytes

Journal of Molecular and Cellular Cardiology, 1992
We have recently shown that a triacylglycerol (TG)-fatty acid cycle is operating in rat myocardial cells incubated in a hypoxic, glucose-containing incubation medium (Myrmel et al., 1991a). In the present study we investigated whether this cycle occurred in hypoxic, glucose-deprived myocytes, and whether high TG levels would increase TG-fatty acid ...
