In cancer cells, the induction of DNA replication stress by HU activates CHK1 by autophosphorylation. This leads to cell cycle arrest and recruits the DNA repair protein WRN to promote DNA repair and cell survival. In such cells, addition of the CHK1 inhibitor 9a propels DNA damage and apoptosis.

Comprehensive Mapping of Functional Enhancers in Chinese Hamster Ovary Cells

In this study, the authors identified regions with enhancer activity in the CHO cell genome using genome‐wide and targeted STARR‐seq. The analysis revealed thousands of newly identified enhancer sequences, where some of the most active sequences could drive transgene expression at levels similar to or higher than strong viral enhancers.

Hydrogen‐deuterium exchange mass spectrometry validated AlphaFold structural prediction of the class III biotin protein ligase (BPL) from Saccharomyces cerevisiae, and revealed a structured domain in the N‐terminal extension characteristic to this class of BPL.
