Glyburide-Induced Hepatitis

Annals of Internal Medicine, 1987
Drug-induced hepatotoxicity, although common, has been reported only infrequently with sulfonylureas. For glyburide, a second-generation sulfonylurea, only two brief reports of hepatotoxicity exist. Two patients with type II diabetes mellitus developed an acute hepatitis-like syndrome soon after initiation of glyburide therapy.

Is Glyburide Safe in Pregnancy?

Current Pharmaceutical Biotechnology, 2014
The clinical recognition and adequate treatment of women with hyperglycemia during pregnancy is significant in order to reduce neonatal complications correlated with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). The traditional management of pregnant patients with GDM in whom diet restriction is not sufficient enough involves subcutaneous insulin administration.

Pharmacokinetics of glyburide

The American Journal of Medicine, 1985
The pharmacokinetics of glyburide can be described by a two-compartment open model. Terminal-phase descriptions are formulation-dependent and are complicated by apparent food-associated mobilization of drug from the stomach. Some researchers indicate a possible third (or deep) compartment, but this appears to be an artifact of a nonspecific drug assay.

The inotropic action of tolbutamide and glyburide

Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics, 1989
The effect of glyburide on myocardial function in human beings is not known. We divided 37 normal male volunteers into five groups. Each group received either intravenous saline solution; 10 mg propranolol by intravenous push followed by 0.1 mg/min; 5 micrograms/kg/min dobutamine; 1000 mg or 1250 mg oral tolbutamide; or 5 mg glyburide.

Granulomatous hepatitis associated with glyburide

Digestive Diseases and Sciences, 1996
A wide variety of diseases and injuries can cause granulomatous hepatitis, and drug-induced granulomatous hepatitis is a well-described entity. Sulfonylurea derivatives, which are commonly used oral hypoglycemic agents in the treatment of non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, have been implicated in liver disease.
