Proline and Glycine Betaine Influence Protein Solvation [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 1984
Glutamine synthetase from barley (Hordeum distichum L.) is precipitated by polyethylene glycol (PEG). Proline, in a concentration-dependent manner, reduces the amount of enzyme precipitated by PEG, although the effect of the imino acid can be counteracted by raising the level of PEG.

Ligand binding and crystal structures of the substrate-binding domain of the ABC transporter OpuA. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2010
BACKGROUND:The ABC transporter OpuA from Lactococcus lactis transports glycine betaine upon activation by threshold values of ionic strength. In this study, the ligand binding characteristics of purified OpuA in a detergent-solubilized state and of its ...

Glycine betaine uptake and metabolism in marine microbial communities

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, 2022
Summary Glycine betaine (GBT) is a compatible solute in high concentrations in marine microorganisms. As a component of labile organic matter, GBT has complex biochemical potential as a substrate for microbial use that is unconstrained in the environment. Here we determine the uptake kinetics and metabolic fate of

Treatment experience in two adults with creatinfe transporter deficiency

open access: yesMolecular Genetics and Metabolism Reports, 2021
Background: Creatine transporter deficiency (CTD) is an X-linked form of intellectual disability (ID) caused by SCL6A8 mutations. Limited information exists on the adult course of CTD, and there are no treatment studies in adults.

Glycine Betaine Transmethylase Mutant of Pseudomonas aeruginosa [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 2002
ABSTRACT The gene for glycine betaine transmethylase ( gbt ) was identified in Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain Fildes III by biochemical, physiological, and molecular approaches. Based on sequence analysis, the knockout gene corresponded to an open reading frame (ORF) named PA3082 in ...
