Glycine betaine transport in Escherichia coli: osmotic modulation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Bacteriology, 1985
Exogenous glycine betaine highly stimulates the growth rate of various members of the Enterobacteriaceae, including Escherichia coli, in media with high salt concentrations (D. Le Rudulier and L. Bouillard, Appl. Environ. Microbiol. 46:152-159, 1983). In a nitrogen- and carbon-free medium, glycine betaine did not support the growth of E. coli either on

Effect of intrathecal glycine and related amino acids on the allodynia and hyperalgesic action of strychnine or bicuculline in mice [PDF]

open access: yesKorean Journal of Anesthesiology, 2010
BackgroundThe intrathecal (IT) administration of glycine or GABAA receptor antagonist result in a touch evoked allodynia through disinhibition in the spinal cord.

Betaine biosynthesis in a heterologous expression system based on the B12 producer Pseudomonas denitrificans [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2020
Glycine betaine is an important donor of methyl groups in various metabolic processes of the cell and acts as an osmoprotector when exposed to various abiotic stresses in pro- and eukaryotic organisms. Moreover, exogenous application of betaine activates

Effect of Different Concentrations of Salicylic Acid in Increasing Resistance to Heat Stress in Cucumber (Cucumis sativa var. Rashid) [PDF]

open access: yesMajallah-i ̒Ulum-i Bāghbānī
IntroductionGrasses are narrow-leaved plants that are used as cover plants in landscape. These plants are one of the basic and necessary components of the green cover of most gardens, parks and as the background color of landscape.

Amelioration Effects against Salinity Stress in Strawberry by Bentonite–Zeolite Mixture, Glycine Betaine, and Bacillus amyloliquefaciens in Terms of Plant Growth, Nutrient Content, Soil Properties, Yield, and Fruit Quality Characteristics

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
Strawberry, the most significant berry crop, is characterized as a salt-sensitive plant. The present study aimed to examine ways to alleviate salinity symptoms (34 mM of NaCl in irrigation water) in strawberry plants.

Determination of .BETA.-alanine betaine and glycine betaine in some marine invertebrates.

open access: yesNIPPON SUISAN GAKKAISHI, 1975
A method for the determination of β-alanine betaine and glycine betaine is described. It is based on an ion-exchange chromatographic separation with a Dowex 50-X12 column and subsequent colorimetric determination of both betaines as reineckate. The recovery was satisfactory, ranging from 97 to 100%.

Histone Modification Complex JMJ704‐HDA709 Negatively Regulates Salinity Tolerance in Rice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that the rice histone demethylase JMJ704 interacts with HDA709―a H3K9ac deacetylase characterized herein―to form a chromatin‐modifying complex. Under salt stress, OsWRKY72 recruits this complex through interaction with JMJ704 to target loci, repressing the expression of oxidative stress and salt‐responsive genes via removal of ...

Response of Snap Bean Grown under High Temperature Conditions to Mycorrhizae and Trichoderma Inoculation, Along with Glycine Betaine and Trehalose Foliar Treatments [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Plant Production
The growing challenges of high-temperatures have necessitated cultivating crops like Phaseolus vulgaris during late dates to bridge the gap between supply and demand. This study aimed to investigate the effects of mycorrhizae and trichoderma inoculation,

Comparison of Enzymatic Traits between Native and Recombinant Glycine Sarcosine N-Methyltransferase from Methanohalophilus portucalensis FDF1T. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
The halophilic methanoarchaeon Methanohalophilus portucalensis FDF1T possesses the ability to synthesize the osmolyte betaine from its precursor, glycine, in response to extracellular salt stress through a three-step transmethylation process. Analysis of

Exploring the Roles of Tuna‐Associated Acinetobacter sp. YFT067: Implications for Host Health and Metabolism

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
This study firstly isolated a tuna‐derived gut probiotic Acinetobacter seifertii YFT067. Dietary administration of YFT067 played significant roles in promoting growth performance, SCFAs production, lipid absorption, and metabolism of the host, indicating YFT067 as a promising probiotic candidate for enhancing tuna aquaculture productivity through ...
