Insulin induces a positive relationship between the rates of ATP and glycogen changes in isolated rat liver in presence of glucose; a 31P and 13C NMR study

open access: yesNutrition & Metabolism, 2005
Background There is an emerging theory suggesting that insulin, which is known to be the predominant postprandial anabolic hormone, is also a major regulator of mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation in human skeletal muscle.

Experience with the Urinary Tetrasaccharide Metabolite for Pompe Disease in the Diagnostic Laboratory

open access: yesMetabolites, 2021
Following clinical indications, the laboratory diagnosis of the inherited metabolic myopathy, Pompe disease (PD), typically begins with demonstrating a reduction in acid alpha-glucosidase (GAA), the enzyme required for lysosomal glycogen degradation ...

Metabolic shift from glycogen to trehalose promotes lifespan and healthspan in Caenorhabditis elegans

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 2018
Significance Increased added sugar is contributing to a rise in aging-related diseases. Here, we use the nematode, Caenorhabditis elegans, which store sugar as both glycogen and trehalose.

Plasma lipidomic and metabolomic profiles in high‐grade glioma patients before and after 72‐h presurgery water‐only fasting

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Presurgery 72‐h fasting in GB patients leads to adaptations of plasma lipids and polar metabolites. Fasting reduces lysophosphatidylcholines and increases free fatty acids, shifts triglycerides toward long‐chain TGs and increases branched‐chain amino acids, alpha aminobutyric acid, and uric acid.

Antioxidant and antimicrobial potential of water lily extracts and their effects on the quality of frozen Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) fillets

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 11, Issue 1, Page 535-544, January 2023., 2023
Extension of shelf life using natural antioxidant like water lily extracts is desirable for highly perishable seafood preservation than the synthetic one. In this study, water lily ethanolic extract has considerable amount of antioxidant and antimicrobial potentiality, which effectively reduced the quality deterioration, inhibited the lipid oxidation ...
