Differential splicing of the glycophorin A mRNA
ELECTROPHORESIS, 1994AbstractTwo truncated mRNAs, in contrast to the full length of mRNA associated with the glycophorin A gene (GpA‐TI, GpA‐TII), were isolated from erythroid cells cultured by the selective two‐phase liquid culture system for erythroid progenitors in peripheral blood from a normal individual.

Antigenicity of rat erythrocyte glycophorins
Immunology Letters, 1988The relationship between rat red blood cell (RBC) glycophorins and the antigens recognised by anti-rat RBC antibodies was examined. Initially, murine monoclonal antibodies specific for surface epitopes on whole rat RBCs were tested for their reactivity with RBC membranes on Western blots and two were found which reacted with blotted antigens.

Monoclonal anti-glycophorin antibodies
Revue Francaise de Transfusion et Immuno-hématologie, 1988The MRC Blood group Unit offered to test the anti- glycophorin antibodies against cells with unsual MN phenotypes. The antibodies were first tested against cells of common MN phenotype to determine their apparent specificities and optimum dilution.

Monoclonal Antibodies Against Glycophorin A
Hybridoma, 1988Two mouse IgM monoclonal antibodies, 177.1 and 179.3, are directed against glycophorin A, the major sialoglycoprotein of human erythrocytes. Both antibodies agglutinate blood group M and N erythrocytes equally well, both before and after treatment with neuraminidase or trypsin, but fail to agglutinate erythrocytes treated with papain.

Glycophorin a expression in malignant hematopoiesis
American Journal of Hematology, 1983AbstractTwo hundred twenty‐nine patients with hematopoietic malignancies were tested for reactivity with a monoclonal anti‐human glycophorin A antibody. One hundred twenty‐three of these cases were classified as acute leukemias of either the myeloid, lymphoid, erythroid, or undifferentiated type.

The major human red cell sialoglycoprotein, glycophorin A, is structurally one of the best known membrane proteins. Until recently, however, nothing was known about its biosynthesis. We found in 1979 that the K562 cell line is erythroid and synthesizes glycophorin A.

Magnetic resonance study of 13C reductively methylated glycophorin and glycophorin glycopeptides
International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, 1984Abstract 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (n.m.r.) spectral data for 13C reductively methylated N-terminal tryptic glycopeptides and for 13C reductively methylated N-terminal glyco-octapeptides derived from homozygous glycophorins AM and AN are presented. Their 13C chemical shift data are compared with the previously published 13C n.m.r.

1. The lithium diiodosalicylate/phenol method, widely employed for the isolation of membrane sialoglycoproteins (glycophorins) from mammalian erythrocytes, was applied for the first time to the purification of homologous glycoproteins from rat erythrocyte membranes. 2. The resulting preparations showed to be composed of four components, fractionated on

Biochemistry and roles of glycophorin A
Biochemical Education, 1988SAAD TAYYAB* and MOHAMMAD ABUL QASIM Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Medicine Aligarh Muslim University Aligarh-202001, India Introduction Membranes play important roles in many cellular phenomena. The transmembrane proteins contain carbohydrates, and are usually implicated in such important biological functions of the cell as virus binding ...

The binding of human alloantibodies to recombinant glycophorin A
Transfusion, 1992Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells were transfected with the wild‐type, M allele of glycophorin A cDNA. The binding of human alloantibodies to recombinant glycophorin A was assessed with a modified hemagglutination‐ inhibition assay. Patient sera were incubated with acetone powders derived from CHO cells, and the adsorbed supernatants were tested in ...
