The effects of alcohols on the structure of human glycophorin
Canadian Journal of Biochemistry, 1979The effects of alcohols on human glycophorin were monitored by circular dichroism, solvent perturbation of absorption spectra, fluorescence of 8-anilino-1-naphthalene sulfonate, and sedimentation equilibrium in the ultracentrifuge. Both ethanol and 2-chloroethanol gradually increase the α helix in glycophorin and its sialic acid free counterpart.

Serological Characters Located on Glycophorin C and Glycophorin D
1995The high-incidence antigens of the Gerbich group were first described by Rosenfield et al. [42] in 1960. Later a complex system comprising several non-allelic antigens was identified, of which to date four specificities have been defined — Ge1, Ge2, Ge3 [8,33], and Ge4 [35].

The intramembranous segment of human erythrocyte glycophorin A
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1978Abstract The intramembranous segment of glycophorin A has been localized to a 35-amino acid peptide. This has been isolated by a new procedure in which acid-insoluble peptides of a tryptic digest of detergent-purified glycophorin A are fractionated by countercurrent distribution.

Thermodynamics of glycophorin in phospholipid bilayer membranes
Biochemistry, 1987We have developed a model of glycophorin in a phospholipid bilayer membrane in order to study the thermodynamics of this system and to understand the detailed behavior of recent calorimetric data. We assume that the larger glycophorin polar group can be considered as either adopting a pancakelike conformation at the bilayer interface (D state) or be ...

The reactivities against seven hemagglutinins including influenza A and B viruses of six sialoglycoprotein (glycophorin) fractions, M-Frs.1-3 and N-Frs.1-3, separated from human OMs and ONs erythrocyte membranes by a combination of the LIS-phenol method and gel filtration were studied.

Glycophorin expression in murine erythroleukaemia cells
Journal of Cell Science, 1989ABSTRACT We have identified mature and putative precursor forms of glycophorins expressed in a virus-transformed murine erythroleukaemia (MEL) cell line and compared them with their normal erythroblast counterparts. The following differences were found: (1) the two major MEL cell glycophorins (apparent Mr values 29–30 and 43(×103)) have ...

Molecular genetics of glycophorin MNS variants
Transfusion Clinique et Biologique, 1997The antigens for the MNS blood group system are Glycophorins A and B (GPA,GPB), products of the GPA gene family. The existence of close to 40 variant phenotypes of this blood group system has been documented by serological analyses. Here is summarized the molecular basis for a large number of variants, including all the variants of the Miltenberger ...

Glycophorin A, a major glycoprotein of the erythrocyte membrane, has been incorporated into small unilamellar vesicles composed of a variety of pure and mixed phospholipids. Nuclear spin labels including 31P and 19F have been used at natural abundance or have been synthetically incorporated in lipids to act as probes of lipid-protein interaction ...

Glycophorins of human erythroleukemic K562 cells
Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 1987Glycophorins related to alpha glycophorin, of the human erythrocyte membrane, were isolated from human erythroleukemic K562 cells. The glycophorins were purified using sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS)/trichloroacetic acid fractionation and Folch and hot phenol extractions. 0.1-0.2 micrograms was obtained/10(8) cells, or approximately a 15% yield.

[Glycophorin in forensic medicine].
Soudni lekarstvi, 2000Immunohistological evidence of glycophorin from paraffin sections of tissues fixed with formol, makes its possible to visualize membranes of preserved erythrocytes and fragments after their disintegration. This fact permits even after development of post-mortem changes to differentiate actual extravasation, manifested by a positive finding of ...
