Proteolytic remodelling of the extracellular matrix by pericytes

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Pericytes are specialised perivascular cells intimately connected with endothelial cells and essential for the maintenance of vascular beds. They contribute to the formation and remodelling of the extracellular matrix by actively secreting proteases and protease inhibitors.

Transcriptomic and proteomic signatures underlying nymphal adaptation and foam production in the forage pest Mahanarva spectabilis

open access: yesInsect Molecular Biology, EarlyView.
RNA‐seq and Batelli gland proteomics of fifth‐instar Mahanarva spectabilis nymphs reveal transcripts and proteins associated with xylem feeding, foam production and environmental interaction. Functional annotation identified genes involved in osmoregulation, detoxification, chemosensation and stress responses, while proteomic analysis confirmed ...

Genome assembly of Elcysma westwoodi provides insights into host‐plant cyanogenic glucoside detoxification and chemical defence gene evolution

open access: yesInsect Molecular Biology, EarlyView.
A chromosome‐level genome of Elcysma westwoodi was assembled. The genome encodes 272 detoxification‐related genes. A single‐copy bCAS was retained for cyanide detoxification. CYP405A and CYP332A were recruited into cyanogenic defence evolution. UGT33A retained a conserved GT‐B fold and catalytic domains.

Salt glands in exo‐recretohalophytes: Development, physiological functions, and prospects for improving crop salt tolerance

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
This review examines salt glands in exo‐recretohalophytes, in which epidermal stem cells differentiate into unicellular, bicellular, or multicellular salt glands. Salt ions are transported to the leaves via the transpiration stream and enter salt glands through symplastic and apoplastic pathways. Finally, salt glands actively secrete salt ions from the

The multidimensional regulation roles and mechanisms of calcium in fruit quality

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
This review explores how calcium signaling molecule integrates plant hormones, environmental cues, and developmental signals to influence external fruit traits, internal nutritional properties, and physiological disorders. ABSTRACT Calcium (Ca2+), a dual‐functional mineral that serves both as an essential structural factor and a signaling molecule ...

Role of glycosylation-related gene MGAT1 in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology
Backgroundpancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a malignant tumor with a very poor prognosis and a complex tumor microenvironment, which plays a key role in tumor progression and treatment resistance.

Orchid genome evolution and trait innovation

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Orchids became one of the world's most diverse plant groups through genome‐driven innovations, unique relationships with fungi and pollinators, and remarkable adaptability. This review explains the origins of orchids and the evolution of their distinctive life forms, flowers, and ecological strategies and highlights promising directions for future ...

Saccharomyces cerevisiae Yeast‐Based Supplement and Breast Milk Supply: A Randomised Placebo‐Controlled Trial

open access: yesMaternal &Child Nutrition, EarlyView.
Maternal brewer's yeast supplementation did not change the milk oligosaccharide (HMO) concentration, but more mothers felt their milk supply was increased, and fewer reported formula use by 6 months postpartum compared to those taking the placebo. This suggests the supplement may support breastfeeding, warranting further investigation in larger trials.

Roles of PknB and CslA in Cell Wall Morphogenesis of Streptomyces

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, EarlyView.
Streptomyces grow by extending hyphal tips, a process regulated by polarisome complexes anchored by DivIVA. Using a genetic screen based on toxic DivIVA overproduction, we identified the kinase PknB as a key regulator of cell envelope construction.

A Phosphorylation‐Dependent Partner‐Switching‐Like Module Regulates a Glycosyltransferase Required for Heterocyst Polysaccharide Layer Formation in Anabaena sp. Strain PCC 7120

open access: yesMolecular Microbiology, EarlyView.
The glycosyltransferase All4160 is regulated by the reversible phosphorylation of Ser74. The kinase Alr3423 phosphorylates and inactivates All4160, while the SpoIIE‐like phosphatase HenR restores its activity through dephosphorylation. A nonphosphorylatable variant of All4160 bypasses the need for HenR, which demonstrates that a phosphorylation ...
