High Statistics Analysis using Anisotropic Clover Lattices: (IV) Volume Dependence of Light Hadron Masses [PDF]
The volume dependence of the octet baryon masses and relations among them are explored with Lattice QCD. Calculations are performed with n_f=2+1 clover fermion discretization in four lattice volumes, with spatial extent L ~ 2.0, 2.5, 3.0 and 3.9 fm, with

We carried out functional studies using Dicer‐substrate small interfering RNAs (DsiRNAs), targeting the sex determination genes Cctransformer (Cctra) and Cctransformer‐2 (Cctra‐2) in the Mediterranean fruit fly (Ceratitis capitata). Microinjection of DsiRNAs into XX embryos (0‐1 h old) rapidly triggered the expression of male‐specific Cctra isoforms ...

The Disparity Between Scientific Consensus and American Public Opinion of Genetically Modified Organisms and Genetic Engineering [PDF]
Genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and genetic engineering (GE) are accepted as safe and useful by the consensus of the scientific community. Their diverse utility has shown promise in addressing major challenges of the 21st century, including world ...

Abstract The Sterile Insect Technique (SIT) is an environmentally friendly, sustainable pest control approach, which uses large‐scale releases of sterile insects to suppress or eradicate target populations through infertile matings. The efficiency of SIT is enhanced by male‐only releases requiring genetic sexing strains (GSSs) that are classically ...

The interplay between societal concerns and the regulatory frame on GM crops in the European Union [PDF]
Recapitulating how genetic modification technology and its agro-food products aroused strong societal opposition in the European Union, this paper demonstrates how this opposition contributed to shape the European regulatory frame on GM crops.

Neoclassical development of genetic sexing strains for insect pest and disease vector control
The sterile insect technique has been effectively used for decades, and an important component is the availability of sex separation systems, in particular genetic sexing strains. Classical approaches, such as irradiation‐induced chromosomal translocations, have yielded stable strains for species like the Mediterranean fruit fly.

Which soils are comfortable for oilseed rape seeds (Brassica napus) to survive?
The study should reveal the effects of soil texture and of seed characteristics of oilseed rape (Brassica napus L.) on seed survival in the soil by a burial experiment.
