Immunologic Cross-reaction Between Human Chorionic Gonadotropin and Human Pituitary Gonadotropin

Endocrinology, 1964
The capacity of human pituitary gonadotropin (NIH-HPG-UE) to absorb antibodies to HCG was measured in 7 experiments utilizing 2 rabbit and 1 sheep anti-HCG preparations. Maximum estimates of the degree of immunologic cross-reaction between NIH-HPG-UE and HCG varied from 34 to 87 % for the different antisera. One minimum estimate was 38%.

Modulation of Pituitary Gonadotropin Response to Gonadotropin-Releasing Hormone by Estradiol

The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1974
ABSTRACT This study was designed to investigate the possibility that estradiol-17β plays a role in the initiation of the surge of gonadotropins at midcycle by increasing pituitary responsiveness to hypothalamic gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). The effect of estradiol-17β on pituitary response to 50 μ GnRH was studied in 15 women on day 2 of the ...

PITUITARY GONADOTROPINS IN GONADAL DYSGENESIS

Pediatrics, 1960
Four prepubertal girls with gonadal dysgenesis whose urine contained pituitary gonadotropin have been studied at various ages at the University of California Medical Center; considerable variation in urinary gonadotropin has been noted in three. Urinary gonadotropin levels should be determined in each case where the diagnosis of gonadal ...

Pituitary Gonadotropins and Multiple Births in Nigeria

Acta geneticae medicae et gemellologiae, 1972
Radioimmunoassay of FSH and LH serum levels has been carried out on 15 Nigerian women, 6 of them mothers of singletons and 9 mothers of twins (2 of two sets). Higher FSH levels have been found in mothers of twins, which supports the view that a higher production of pituitary gonadotropins, resulting in a higher incidence of multiple ovulation, may be ...

Gonadal hormone feedback on pituitary gonadotropin genes

Trends in Endocrinology & Metabolism, 1996
The pituitary gonadotropins LH and FSH, which act on the ovaries and testes to promote gametogenesis and sex steroid production, are regulated by changes in the levels of steroids and gonadal peptides. Steroid feedback can be positive, as demonstrated by the estrogen and LH surge at ovulation, or negative, as demonstrated by the rise in LH and FSH ...
