Exploring Dose‐Dependent Cytotoxicity Profile of Gracilaria edulis-Mediated Green Synthesized Silver Nanoparticles against MDA‐MB‐231 Breast Carcinoma

open access: yesOxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
Green‐based synthesis of metal nanoparticles using marine seaweeds is a rapidly growing technology that is finding a variety of new applications. In the present study, the aqueous extract of a marine seaweed, Gracilaria edulis, was employed for the synthesis of metallic nanoparticles without using any reducing and stabilizing chemical agents.

Direct and indirect effects of Gracilaria vermiculophylla on native Fucus vesiculosus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
The perennial red macroalga Gracilaria vermiculophylla (Ohmi) Papenfuss has recently been introduced to the Baltic Sea and is a potential competitor to Fucus vesiculosus, the most common native perennial alga in large parts of the Baltic Sea.

Taxonomic notes on five species of Gracilariaceae from Hainan, China [PDF]

open access: yesALGAE, 2012
Hainan is the second largest and southernmost island of China, and it harbors many species of the family Gracilariaceae. In this study, we conducted molecular and morphological analyses of gracilarian specimens collected from Hainan Island, to clarify their taxonomic identity and phylogenetic relationships. Five species of Gracilariaceae in Hainan were

After a catastrophe, a little bit of sex is better than nothing: Genetic consequences of a major earthquake on asexual and sexual populations

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, Volume 13, Issue 8, Page 2086-2100, September 2020., 2020
Abstract Catastrophic events can have profound effects on the demography of a population and consequently on genetic diversity. The dynamics of postcatastrophic recovery and the role of sexual versus asexual reproduction in buffering the effects of massive perturbations remain poorly understood, in part because the opportunity to document genetic ...

Better off alone? Compared performance of monoclonal and polyclonal stands of a cultivated red alga growth

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, Volume 13, Issue 5, Page 905-917, May 2020., 2020
Abstract The objective of this study was to test, using a field experiment, the effect of genotypic diversity on productivity of farmed populations (Ancud and Chaica, Chile) of the domesticated red alga Agarophyton chilense (formerly known as Gracilaria chilensis), a species considered as economically important in Chile.

Human Microbe‐Disease Association Prediction by a Novel Double‐Ended Random Walk with Restart

open access: yesBioMed Research International, Volume 2020, Issue 1, 2020., 2020
Microorganisms in the human body play a vital role in metabolism, immune defense, nutrient absorption, cancer control, and prevention of pathogen colonization. More and more biological and clinical studies have shown that the imbalance of microbial communities is closely related to the occurrence and development of various complex human diseases ...
