The gradient discretisation method for linear advection problems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We adapt the Gradient Discretisation Method (GDM), originally designed for elliptic and parabolic partial differential equations, to the case of a linear scalar hyperbolic equations.

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

Variability of the Boundary Layer Over an Urban Continental Site Based on 10 Years of Active Remote Sensing Observations in Warsaw

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
Atmospheric boundary layer height (ABLH) was observed by the CHM15k ceilometer (January 2008 to October 2013) and the PollyXT lidar (July 2013 to December 2018) over the European Aerosol Research LIdar NETwork to Establish an Aerosol Climatology ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Gradient method with AFEM for parameter-estimation

open access: yesSelecciones Matemáticas, 2023
We consider the adaptive finite element discretization of parameter estimation problems for nonlinear elliptic partial differential equations. The idea is to use a gradient method on the finite-dimensional parameter space for the minimization of the ...

Regularized Dual Averaging Image Reconstruction for Full-Wave Ultrasound Computed Tomography

open access: yes, 2017
Ultrasound computed tomography (USCT) holds great promise for breast cancer screening. Waveform inversion-based image reconstruction methods account for higher order diffraction effects and can produce high-resolution USCT images, but are computationally

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

The Average Sentinel of the Heat Equation with an Unknown Reaction

open access: yesAxioms
In this paper, we analyze the identification of the amount of pollutant discharged problem by each source in a heat system when the dynamics of the state are governed by a parameterized unknown operator.

A Family of Gradient Methods for Optimization [PDF]

open access: yesThe Computer Journal, 1970
The approaches to the problem of maximising or minimising a nonlinear function of several variables can be put into three categories according to how much information is extracted from the function. 1. Only the function value. The more well-known methods in this category are those of Nelder and Mead (1965), Powell (1965), Rosenbrock (1960), and Swann ...

Polynomial Preconditioning for Gradient Methods

open access: yesCoRR, 2023
We study first-order methods with preconditioning for solving structured nonlinear convex optimization problems. We propose a new family of preconditioners generated by symmetric polynomials. They provide first-order optimization methods with a provable improvement of the condition number, cutting the gaps between highest eigenvalues, without explicit ...
