Questioning size effects as predicted by strain gradient plasticity

open access: yesJournal of the Mechanical Behavior of Materials, 2013
The analytical solution of the elastic-plastic response of a two-phase laminate microstructure subjected to periodic simple shear loading conditions is derived considering strain gradient and micromorphic plasticity models successively. One phase remains

Research on transition layer microstructure and properties of Al–Cu/Al–Si gradient materials fabricated by cold metal transfer

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
As an important part of the additive manufacturing technology, wire arc additive manufacture (WAAM) is outstanding with high deposition efficiency, large size of deposited parts, short periodic time, and low costs.

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Modeling the hall-petch effect with a gradient crystal plasticity theory including a grain boundary yield criterion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
. A strain gradient crystal plasticity theory including the gradient of the equiv- alent plastic strain ∇γeq is discussed. A grain boundary yield condition is proposed in order to account for the influence of the grain boundaries ...

An elasto-visco-plastic model for immortal foams or emulsions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
A variety of complex fluids consist in soft, round objects (foams, emulsions, assemblies of copolymer micelles or of multilamellar vesicles -- also known as onions). Their dense packing induces a slight deviation from their prefered circular or spherical

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Computational and theoretical aspects of a grain-boundary model that accounts for grain misorientation and grain-boundary orientation

open access: yes, 2015
A detailed theoretical and numerical investigation of the infinitesimal single-crystal gradient plasticity and grain-boundary theory of Gurtin (2008) "A theory of grain boundaries that accounts automatically for grain misorientation and grain-boundary ...

A new analytical approach for the velocity field in rolling processes and its application in through-thickness texture prediction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A new analytical model is presented that expresses kinematically admissible velocity fields in rolling processes. Opposed to conventional streamline approaches, the current model does not force the material to flow along the prescribed lines, but ...

RIPK4 function interferes with melanoma cell adhesion and metastasis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
RIPK4 promotes melanoma growth and spread. RIPK4 levels increase as skin lesions progress to melanoma. CRISPR/Cas9‐mediated deletion of RIPK4 causes melanoma cells to form less compact spheroids, reduces their migratory and invasive abilities and limits tumour growth and dissemination in mouse models.

Strain gradient plasticity-based modeling of hydrogen environment assisted cracking [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Finite element analysis of stress about a blunt crack tip, emphasizing finite strain and phenomenological and mechanism-based strain gradient plasticity (SGP) formulations, is integrated with electrochemical assessment of occluded-crack tip hydrogen (H ...
