Field evidence for the upwind velocity shift at the crest of low dunes

open access: yes, 2013
Wind topographically forced by hills and sand dunes accelerates on the upwind (stoss) slopes and reduces on the downwind (lee) slopes. This secondary wind regime, however, possesses a subtle effect, reported here for the first time from field ...

Avoidance of stress corrosion susceptibility in high strength aluminum alloys by control of grain boundary and matrix microstructure [PDF]

open access: yes
The relation of microstructure to the mechanical strength and stress corrosion resistance of highest strength and overaged tempers of BAR and 7050 aluminum alloys was investigated. Comparison is made with previously studied 7075 aluminum alloy.

Trapped charge driven degradation of perovskite solar cells

open access: yes, 2016
Perovskite solar cells have shown fast deterioration during actual operation even with encapsulation, but its mechanism has been elusive. We found the fundamental mechanism for irreversible degradation of perovskite materials in which trapped charges ...

Investigation of the mechanical anisotropy of the hot isostatic pressing Mar-M247 produced via laser powder bed fusion (LPBF): a perspective on grain characteristics

open access: yesMaterials Research Express
The anisotropy in mechanical properties of additively manufactured (AM) superalloys, closely related to grain morphology, grain boundaries, and precipitated phases, impedes their aerospace applications.

Initiation of internal fatigue crack in a carbide-free bainitic steel during high cycle fatigue

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
The crack initiation stage is crucial to the overall fatigue behavior of the carbide-free bainitic steels. Through S–N curve testing and fracture observation, it is demonstrated that internal crack initiation is the dominant mode during high cycle ...

THE INITIAL CREEP OF COLUMNAR-GRAINED ICE: PART II. ANALYSIS

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Physics, 1965
Observations on the initial creep behavior of columnar-grained ice are analyzed by assuming that the creep strain at a given time has a power-law dependence on the applied constant compressive stress. The exponent for the stress was time-dependent during transient creep.
