Enhancing Corrosion Resistance and Mechanical Strength of 3D‐Printed Iron Polylactic Acid for Marine Applications via Laser Surface Texturing

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser surface texturing significantly improves the corrosion resistance and mechanical strength of 3D‐printed iron polylactic acid (Ir‐PLA) for marine applications. Optimal laser parameters reduce corrosion by 80% and enhance tensile strength by 25% and ductility by 15%.

The Poisoning Effect of Al and Be on Mg—1 wt.% Zr Alloy and the Role of Ultrasonic Treatment on Grain Refinement

open access: yesFrontiers in Materials, 2019
Addition of Al—Be master alloy to a Mg—Zr alloy reduces melt oxidation, however, it has a detrimental grain coarsening effect that is believed to be caused by an unknown interaction of Be with the Zr nucleant particles.

Dynamic Precipitation during High‐Pressure Torsion of a Magnesium–Manganese Alloy

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An ultrafine‐grained alloy is produced by high‐pressure torsion of solutionized Mg–1.35 wt% Mn. Precipitation of nanometer‐scale Mn particles during deformation provides pinning sites. This prevents the formation of a bimodal grain structure and results in a finer grain size than for pure Mg.

Laser Metal Deposited Ti4822 Hollow Pipe: Experimental and Computational Modelling Study

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Laser metal deposition (LMD) of a crack‐free built Ti4822 alloys is challenging. This article reports outstanding characteristics of a hollow pipe that is built with LMD technology when a predicted, nontransformation substrate temperature of 800 °C is used.

Synergistic effects of Y and Nd on grain refinement of Mg-Y-Nd-Al alloy

open access: yesMaterials Research Express, 2022
In this study, the synergistic effects of Y and Nd on the grain refinement of the as-cast Mg-Y-Nd-Al alloy was investigated by varying Y and Nd contents while fixing their total content (Y + Nd) at 7%.
