Accelerating Computer-Based Recognition of Fynbos Leaves Using a Graphics Processing Unit

open access: yesSouth African Computer Journal, 2017
The Cape Floristic Kingdom (CFK) is the most diverse floristic kingdom in the world and has been declared an international heritage site. However, it is under threat from wild fires and invasive species. Much of the work of managing this natural resource,

Pseudo-depth domain reverse time migration in VTI medium based on GPU parallel strategy

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science, 2023
As one of the main imaging methods, a lot of attention has been directed to reverse time migration anisotropic media. However, reverse time migration still faces cost and memory limitations, especially in imaging high frequencies.

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.

Identification of a Shiga toxin A‐derived peptide internalized into Gb3 receptor‐bearing cells via interaction with the Shiga toxin B subunit

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The process of internalization of the Shiga toxin A subunit via formation of a complex with the Shiga toxin B subunit, which specifically binds to the Gb3 receptor. The peptide is designed to act as a carrier of drugs into cancer cells. Here, we explored the potential of peptides derived from the catalytic A subunit of Shiga toxin (STxA) to be drug ...

Simulation of the linear mechanical oscillator on GPU [PDF]

open access: yesFME Transactions, 2014
In this short paper we are describing some methods for solving stochastic differential equations which appears in mechanics. We are concerned with solutions of mechanical oscillators which are subject to random excitation.

Microbiome‐blood–brain barrier interactions in aging — mechanisms and therapeutic potential

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Aging reshapes the gut microbiome (↓SCFA‐producing commensals; ↑pro‐inflammatory outputs), shifting circulating metabolites (↓SCFAs; ↑LPS, ↑TMAO, ↑PAA) that act at the BBB to increase nonspecific transcytosis, alter transport, and promote astrocyte reactivity, heightening brain vulnerability.

Parallel fuzzy minimals on GPU

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
Clustering is a classification method that organizes objects into groups based on their similarity. Data clustering can extract valuable information, such as human behavior, trends, and so on, from large datasets by using either hard or fuzzy approaches.
