Loss mechanisms of surface plasmon polaritons on gold probed by cathodoluminescence imaging spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We use cathodoluminescence imaging spectroscopy to excite surface plasmon polaritons and measure their decay length on single crystal and polycrystalline gold surfaces. The surface plasmon polaritons are excited on the gold surface by a nanoscale focused

The Effect of Purcell Cavities on the Lifetime of Thermally Activated Delayed Fluorescent Emitters

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A pressing challenge to OLED displays and lighting is to balance high efficiency and long operational lifetime in the deep blue spectrum. The Purcell effect can reduce the triplet density and hence the probability for destructive energy‐driven triplet annihilation events that limit the OLED lifetime. Here we study of the Purcell effect on two different

Non-steady-state extremely asymmetrical scattering of waves in periodic gratings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Extremely asymmetrical scattering (EAS) is a highly resonant type of Bragg scattering with a strong resonant increase of the scattered wave amplitude inside and outside the grating.

Contact Lens with Moiré Patterns for High‐Precision Eye Tracking

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents a passive contact lens for high‐precision eye tracking, integrating a microscopic moiré grating label. The parallax‐induced shift of macroscopic moiré patterns enables angle measurement with 0.28° precision using a standard camera under ambient light.

Mid-Infrared Grating Couplers for Silicon-on-Sapphire Waveguides

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2012
Theoretical and experimental results of mid-infrared (mid-IR) gratings for coupling between transverse-electric (TE)/transverse-magnetic (TM) mode silicon-on-sapphire (SOS) waveguides and zirconium, barium, lanthanum, aluminum, and sodium fluoride (ZBLAN)

Artificial dielectric devices for variable polarization compensation at millimeter and submillimeter wavelengths [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Variable polarization compensation has been demonstrated at 100 GHz. The device consists of two interlocking V-groove artificial dielectric gratings that produce a birefringence that varies with the separation distance. A maximum retardance of 74/spl deg/

Broadband, Flexible, Skin‐Compatible Carbon Dots/Graphene Photodetectors for Wearable Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Broadband, flexible photodetectors integrating nitrogen‐rich carbon dots with single‐layer graphene on plastic substrates are demonstrated. A biocompatible chitosan–glycerol electrolyte enables efficient low‐voltage gating and on‐skin operation. The devices exhibit ultraviolet‐to‐near‐infrared response, mechanical robustness under bending, and verified

Fixing of volume holograms in ferroelectric K_(1-y)Li_yTa_(1-x)Nb_xO_3 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
We report on the fixing of photorefractive volume holograms in potassium lithium tantalate niobate with ionic gratings and also with ferroelectric domain-reversed gratings.

Nanofibers with Bragg gratings from equidistant holes

open access: yes, 2011
We study nanofibers with Bragg gratings from equidistant holes. We calculate analytically and numerically the reflection and transmission coefficients for a single grating and also for a cavity formed by two gratings.
