Studies on γ-Glutamyl Transpeptidase in Green Asparagus

open access: yesAgricultural and Biological Chemistry, 1967
Presence of γ-glutamyl transpeptidase in soluble cell fraction of green asparagus has been confirmed for the first time. The partially purified enzyme, having an optimal pH ca. 8.0 for the enzymatic reaction, was labile for storage at alkaline pH. Km for the substrate γ-glutamyl aniline was 1.1×10-3 M.

Seed co‐occurrence caused by shared frugivores leaves a long‐lasting signal in the spatial co‐occurrence among plants

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
By dispersing seeds, frugivorous animals affect spatial co‐occurrence of plants, ultimately influencing plant community dynamics. Frugivorous animals are intrinsically involved in plant community dynamics, by dispersing seeds of fleshy‐fruited plants and influencing their spatial co‐occurrence.

POSTHARVEST PERFORMANCE OF WHITE AND GREEN ASPARAGUS SPEARS [PDF]

open access: yesHortScience, 1991
Black and white plastic row covers were established over 4 yr old field-grown 'Jersey Giant' asparagus in March 1990 to produce white asparagus spears. Control or green spears were grown without row covers. Spears harvested between Apr 27 and May 18 were used in subsequent experiments.

Optimization of ozone concentration and storage time in green asparagus (Asparagus officinalis L.) using response surface methodology

open access: yesVitae, 2021
Background: Asparagus (Asparagus officinalis L.) green is a vegetable with a great demand worldwide, and likewise, it is highly perishable due to its high respiration rate that accelerates its senescence. Disinfection of vegetables after their harvest is

Conservation status of species used in the UK herbal medicine industry

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Given the ongoing biodiversity crisis, sustainable use and management of medicinal plants is critical. We assessed the conservation status, threats and conservation actions of 298 species sold by UK suppliers to medical herbalists. We found that most species used are unevaluated, representing a gap in conservation knowledge, and of those with ...
