A study of energy efficiency opportunities in Putrajaya Maritime Centre towards green building [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Nowadays, people are more concerned about energy efficiency, energy consumption and conservations in buildings. With this in view, a project to investigate the potential of energy saving in selected building in Putrajaya Maritime Centre was carried

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Effect of fines content on liquefaction resistance of soil using laboratory test and SPT

open access: yesScientific Reports
Liquefaction is a severe earthquake-induced ground failure that reduces soil strength and foundation stability. This study examined the influence of fines content (FC) on soil liquefaction behaviour through field case histories and laboratory tests ...

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.

Which “Greenness” is Valued? Evidence from Green Condominiums in Tokyo [PDF]

open access: yes
This is one of the first researches on price differentials of green buildings in Asia. Using a rich set of data on condominium transactions and mandatory evaluation of environmental performance in Tokyo, we estimate the effects of itemized green scores ...

PUSH Buffalo\u27s Community Housing Co-operative: A Case Study in Green Building Rehabilitation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Between March 2006 and March 2007, a group of community organizers at People United for Sustainable Housing (PUSH) used green building methods to create affordable, safe, and sustainable housing by rehabilitating a formerly abandoned four unit building ...

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

A Short Guide to Setting Up a City Scale Retrofit Program [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Buildings represent 38.9% of U.S. primary energy use and 38% of all CO2 emissions in the U.S. Though simple, relatively low-cost measures such as insulation, and lighting upgrades can be done in almost every building to reduce energy use and save money ...

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Axial Compressive Performance of CFRP-Confined Corroded Reinforced Concrete Columns

open access: yesBuildings
In saline environments, it is difficult for reinforced concrete structures to meet normal durability requirements, which in turn affects the mechanical properties of the members.
