In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Determination of Pb using F3eO4 GO join to DPTH for ferrofluid based dispersive solid phase extraction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
In this work has been described a green and rapid method the synthesis of Fe3O4@GO nanospheres via chemical covalent bonding method. The Fe3O4@GO DPTH was applied to ferrofluid based dispersive solid phase extraction of lead as a model analyte using an ...

Green Biosynthesis Silver Nanoparticles Using Leaf Extract

open access: yesNatural Resources and Sustainable Development, 2018
Using plant extract to synthesize silver nanoparticles is particularly worth of attention due to the simple, quick, affordable and friendly protocol with the environment. In our experiment, we have proved both the ability of common species (Mentha aquatic, Coleus blumei and Tagetes erecta) of achieving the synthesis of nanoparticles with a diameter ...

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Biofuels Subsidies and the Green Paradox [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper develops sufficient conditions under which the Weak Green Paradox may (and may not) hold in terms of subsidies for biofuel production such that the supply-side responses by fossil fuel producers may more than offset the substitution to ...
