Mechanisms of pitting induced by containing Ce inclusions in X100 pipeline steel

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
Rare earth cerium (Ce) can reduce the pitting susceptibility and occurrence probability of X100 pipeline steel in a simulated marine environment by altering the characteristics and quantity of inclusions.

Optimization of brewing conditions in epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) extraction from Jinxuan summer green tea by response surface methodology

open access: yesJournal of Applied Botany and Food Quality, 2018
The extraction conditions of epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) from Jinxuan summer green tea and antitumor activity against human gastric cancer SGC-7901 cells of the green tea extracts were investigated.

Breakthrough renewables and the green paradox [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We show how a monopolistic owner of oil reserves responds to a carbon-free substitute becoming available at some uncertain point in the future if demand is isoelastic and variable extraction costs are zero but upfront exploration investment costs have to

Green Biosynthesis Silver Nanoparticles Using Leaf Extract

open access: yesNatural Resources and Sustainable Development, 2018
Using plant extract to synthesize silver nanoparticles is particularly worth of attention due to the simple, quick, affordable and friendly protocol with the environment. In our experiment, we have proved both the ability of common species (Mentha aquatic, Coleus blumei and Tagetes erecta) of achieving the synthesis of nanoparticles with a diameter ...

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Recent research progress on sulfide solid electrolytes and sulfide-based all-solid-state lithium-ion batteries

open access: yesMaterials & Design
All-solid-state lithium batteries (ASSLBs) using sulfide (SEs) have emerged as highly promising candidates for next-generation energy storage technologies owing to their intrinsic safety and remarkable theoretical energy density.

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Plasma extrachromosomal circular DNA as a biomarker in EGFR‐targeted therapy of non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Detection of extrachromosomal circular DNA (eccDNA) in plasma samples from EGFR‐mutated non‐small cell lung cancer patients. Plasma was collected before and during treatment with the EGFR‐tyrosine kinase inhibitor osimertinib. Plasma eccDNA was detected in all cancer samples, and the presence of the EGFR gene on eccDNA serves as a potential biomarker ...

The Green Paradox: A Supply-side View of the Climate Problem [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Why have policies aimed at reducing the demand for carbon not succeeded in slowing down global carbon extraction and CO2 emissions, and why have carbon prices failed to increase over the last three decades? This comment argues that this is because of the
