Control of Grid-Following Inverters Under Unbalanced Grid Conditions
This paper proposes a new control scheme to eliminate the 3rd harmonic in the output currents of grid-following inverters under unbalanced grid conditions. Unbalanced grids adversely affect the performance of grid-following inverters due to the oscillations appearing on the DC-link voltage with a frequency twice the line frequency.

Unified Virtual Oscillator Control for Grid-Forming and Grid-Following Converters [PDF]
A unified virtual oscillator controller (uVOC) is proposed, which enables a unified analysis, design, and implementation framework for both grid-forming (GFM) and grid-following (GFL) voltage source converters (VSCs). Oscillator based GFM controllers, such as dispatchable virtual oscillator control (dVOC), offer rigorous analytical framework with ...

A Novel Koopman-Inspired Method for the Secondary Control of Microgrids with Grid-Forming and Grid-Following Sources [PDF]
This paper proposes an online data-driven Koopman-inspired identification and control method for microgrid secondary voltage and frequency control. Unlike typical data-driven methods, the proposed method requires no warm-up training yet with guaranteed ...

The high penetration of renewable energy sources (RESs) and power electronics devices has led to a continuous decline in power system stability. Due to the instability of grid-following converters (GFLCs) in weak grids, the grid-forming converters (GFMCs)

External Inertia Emulation Controller for Grid-Following Power Converter [PDF]
The advent of renewable energy has posed difficulties in the operation of power systems whose net inertia is becoming critically low. To face such challenges, grid-forming power has been one of the potential solutions pursued by the industry and research community. Although promising, grid-forming power converters are still immature for mass deployment

Modelling of grid-following current-controlled VSC
Abstract The voltage sourced converter (VSC) is a basic element in the grid connected solar-PV system that used in converting the DC-generated power from the solar-PV to AC power compatible with the utility grid. In this paper, a grid connected, three phase, two level VSC model and its control technique are simulated.

Grid-Forming and Grid-Following Based Microgrid Inverters Control
Microgrids (ℳ-grids) can be thought of as a small-scale electrical network comprised of a mix of Distributed Generation (DG) resources, storage devices, and a variety of load species. It provides communities with a stable, secure, and renewable energy supply in either off-grid (grid-forming) or on-grid (grid-following) mode.
