Experimental studies on grinding forces and force ratio of the unsteady-state grinding technique
Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2002Abstract The whole machining process of unsteady-state grinding was evaluated through the measurement of the grinding forces, namely tangential grinding force Ft and normal grinding force Fn. A number of accurate signals of the grinding forces were achieved by setting up a measurement system including a sensor, an amplifier, an oscilloscope and a ...

Modeling and experimental study of grinding forces in surface grinding
Journal of Materials Processing Technology, 2009Grinding forces are composed of chip formation force and sliding force. A new mathematical model of grinding forces in surface grinding is developed in this paper. Effectiveness of this model is proved by comparison of the experimental results and the model calculation results.

Research on grinding forces of a bionic engineered grinding wheel
Journal of Manufacturing Processes, 2019Abstract Higher grinding forces have harmful impact on service life of grinding wheel and surface integrity of workpiece. Large supply of cutting fluid is often used to lower grinding force by improving lubrication condition, but it will cause various environmental threats. In this paper, an engineered grinding wheel (EGW) bio-inspired by phyllotaxis

Force controlled robot for grinding
IEEE International Workshop on Intelligent Robots and Systems, Towards a New Frontier of Applications, 2002Two algorithms for use in force controlled robot applications have been developed for grinding. The 'gradient prediction method' is presented as an improvement to contour following in the force control mode. In this method, the gradient of the workpiece is predicted, and the force errors caused thereby are corrected.

Grinding forces and energy play an important role in all abrasive machining operations. While specific grinding energy may be obtained from workpiece dynamometer values or by measuring spindle power, care must be exercised in converting dynamometer reading into power consumed.

This paper investigates belt forces in abrasive belt grinding. The distribution of normal and tangential belt forces are determined analytically and experimentally for belt grinding with both a driving and a driven pulley contact wheel. The experimental results are compared with the analytical results.

The prediction of grinding forces in cylindrical plunge grinding
International Journal of Production Research, 1986SUMMARY Traditionally the grinding process has been a finishing process and the operating parameters and the results obtained in this mode are well known. However, there is an increasing demand for the use of high rates of metal removal grinding and when allied with the application of adaptive control this has highlighted a need to be able to predict ...
