Theoretical Proof of and Proposed Experimental Search for the Ground Triplet State of a Wigner-Regime Two-Electron ‘Artificial Atom’ in a Magnetic Field

open access: yesAxioms
It is experimentally established that there is no ground triplet state of the natural He atom. There is also no exact analytical solution to the Schrödinger equation corresponding to this state.

Zero-point fluctuations in the ground state of a mesoscopic normal ring

open access: yes, 2000
We investigate the persistent current of a ring with an in-line quantum dot capacitively coupled to an external circuit. Of special interest is the magnitude of the persistent current as a function of the external impedance in the zero temperature limit ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Ground state sign-changing solution for a logarithmic Kirchhoff-type equation in $\mathbb{R}^{3}$

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Qualitative Theory of Differential Equations
We investigate the following logarithmic Kirchhoff-type equation: \begin{equation*} \left(a+b\int_{\mathbb{R}^{3}}|\nabla u|^{2}+V(x)u^{2}dx\right)[-\Delta u+V(x)u]=|u|^{p-2}u\ln |u|,\qquad x\in\mathbb{R}^{3}, \end{equation*} where $a,b>0$ are constants,

Existence of Positive Ground State Solution for the Nonlinear Schrödinger-Poisson System with Potentials

open access: yesAdvances in Mathematical Physics, 2018
In the present paper we study the existence of positive ground state solutions for the nonautonomous Schrödinger-Poisson system with competing potentials. Under some assumptions for the potentials we prove the existence of positive ground state solution.

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Existence of a ground-state solution for a quasilinear Schrödinger system

open access: yesFrontiers in Physics
In this paper, we consider the following quasilinear Schrödinger system.−Δu+u+k2Δ|u|2u=2αα+β|u|α−2u|v|β,x∈RN,−Δv+v+k2Δ|v|2v=2βα+β|u|α|v|β−2v,x∈RN,where k < 0 is a real constant, α > 1, β > 1, and α + β < 2*.

Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.

Structure of ground state solutions for singular elliptic equations with a quadratic gradient term

open access: yesElectronic Journal of Differential Equations, 2011
We establish results on existence, non-existence, and asymptotic behavior of ground state solutions for the singular nonlinear elliptic problem $$displaylines{ -Delta u = g(u)| abla u |^2 + lambdapsi(x) f(u) quadhbox{in } mathbb{R}^N,\ u > 0 ...

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...
