Zinc‐stabilized stannous fluoride modulates the periodontal microbiome, reducing Fusobacteria, key Gram‐negative species, and overall inflammation within an experimental gingivitis clinical trial

open access: yesJournal of Periodontology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a dentifrice containing stannous fluoride stabilized with zinc phosphate on subgingival microbiome composition and clinical inflammation during experimental gingivitis, compared with a sodium fluoride control. Methods This investigation was conducted as a secondary analysis of a randomized,

Penicillin Tolerance in Group A Streptococci

open access: yes, 1997
Penicillin is the drug of choice for the treatment of streptococcal pharyngitis. However, during the last years, several studies has shown tolerance to penicillin as one of the major causes of treatment failure5. Tolerance to penicillin, namely, a significantly decreased bactericidal effect on the organisms, is often defined by macrodilution method as ...

Immunosuppressant from Group A Streptococci

Science, 1968
A cytoplasmic component of group A streptococci suppresses both 19 S and 7 S antibody responses of mice to sheep erythrocytes. Partial purification is achieved by differential centrifugation and gel filtration.

The Opacity Factor of Group-A Streptococci

Journal of Medical Microbiology, 1982
Cell-bound opacity factor (OF) was extracted with sodium dodecyl sulphate (SDS) to yield stable extracts with titres of greater than 20 000. The mol.-wt distributions of extracellular and SDS-extracted OF, determined by ultrafiltration or chromatography on Sepharose 4B, suggested that the high mol.

Rapid grouping of streptococci by immunoelectroosmophoresis

Medical Microbiology and Immunology, 1974
Immunoelectroosmophoresis (IEOP) or countercurrent immunoelectrophoresis has been used to develop a rapid procedure for grouping group A, B, C, D, G and H streptococci. The group-specific carbohydrates were extracted by conventional methods such as treatment with acid or formamide and compared with extraction by autoclaving and pronase treatment for ...

Bacteremia With Group A Streptococci in Childhood

Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, 1988
Medical records of 60 patients with bacteremia caused by group A streptococci who were treated at the Yale-New Haven (Conn) Hospital from 1973 to 1986 and the Boston Children's Hospital Medical Center from 1977 to 1984 were reviewed. Seven children (12%) were immunocompromised, seven (12%) had varicella, and two (3%) had cavernous hemangiomas.

Erysipelas and group G streptococci

Infection, 1987
In a prospective study, 73 patients with erysipelas were studied bacteriologically, serologically and clinically. Pathogenic bacteria were isolated from 41% of the patients. Group G streptococci (GGS) were found as frequently as group A streptococci (GAS), in 12.5% and 15% of patients, respectively.

Penicillin tolerant group a streptococci

Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Disease, 1986
A penicillin (PCN) tolerant [minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) less than or equal to 0.02, minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC) = 3.10 micrograms/ml] group A streptococcus (GAS) was recovered from the bone aspirate of a child with osteomyelitis.

Antibiotic Resistance in Group A Streptococci

Pediatric Clinics of North America, 1995
Although erythromycin resistance in GABHS has been a major problem in Japan and in Finland, it has not been a problem in the United States. The susceptibility of GABHS to the newer macrolide antibiotics seems to be similar to that of erythromycin. Comprehensive, community-wide programs to continuously monitor for erythromycin resistance in GABHS would ...
