Detection of epidemic scarlet fever group A Streptococcus in Australia.
Sentinel hospital surveillance was instituted in Australia to detect the presence of pandemic group A Streptococcus strains causing scarlet fever. Genomic and phylogenetic analyses indicated the presence of an Australian GAS emm12 scarlet fever isolate ...

TRPM8 levels determine tumor vulnerability to channel agonists
TRPM8 is a Ca2+ permissive channel. Regardless of the amount of its transcript, high levels of TRPM8 protein mark different tumors, including prostate, breast, colorectal, and lung carcinomas. Targeting TRPM8 with channel agonists stimulates inward calcium currents followed by emptying of cytosolic Ca2+ stores in cancer cells.

β-HEMOLYTIC STREPTOCOCCUS GROUP A CARRIER IN CHILDREN: THE PROBLEM OF DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS
Streptococcal infection is characterized by a variety of manifestations from asymptomatic carriage of the pathogen to manifest forms. Recently, in addition to the bacteriological method for confirming streptococcal etiology, the rapid test for β ...

Rapid antigen detection test for group A streptococcus in children with pharyngitis.
BACKGROUND Group A streptococcus (GAS) accounts for 20% to 40% of cases of pharyngitis in children; the remaining cases are caused by viruses. Compared with throat culture, rapid antigen detection tests (RADTs) offer diagnosis at the point of care ...

Non‐small cell lung cancer targeted treatment is limited to a few known genetic alterations, with few alternatives in advanced treatment lines. To direct treatment decisions by drug sensitivity testing (DST), this study compared several methods for tumor cell isolation from malignant effusions, pointing to repeated CD45+ cell depletion for effective ...

Chimeric diphtheria toxin–CCL8 cytotoxic peptide for breast cancer management
DTCCL8 is a recombinant fusion toxin that targets cancer cells expressing chemokine receptors. By combining diphtheria toxin with CCL8, DTCCL8 binds to multiple receptors on tumor cells and induces selective cytotoxicity. This strategy enables receptor‐mediated targeting of cancer and may support the development of chemokine‐guided therapeutics ...

Significance Group A Streptococcus (GAS) causes invasive streptococcal infections in humans, resulting in high mortality. Thus, GAS is also known as “killer bacteria” or “flesh-eating bacteria.” The mechanism by which the immune system recognizes this ...
