Factorizable Groups and Formations

Acta Applicandae Mathematicae, 2005
Let \(\mathcal F\) be a saturated formation of finite groups that is locally defined by the formation function \(f\) (called ``local satellite'' of \(\mathcal F\)), i.e., \({\mathcal F}=\text{LF}(f)\). Such a satellite is called semi-integrated if, for each prime \(p\), either \(f(p)\subseteq\mathcal F\) or \(f(p)=\mathcal E\), the class of all groups.

The dynamics of group formation

Mathematical Biosciences, 1995
A general continuous model is presented for animal group size distribution. Attention is restricted to a fixed size population divided into groups of various dynamic sizes, but the approach extends easily to populations of variable size. The basic idea is to relate group size distribution to two functions, the (density-dependent) rates of fusion and ...

On Lattices of Formations of Finite Groups

Algebra Colloquium, 2010
Let ω be a set of primes with |ω| > 1, and m > n ≥ 0 be integers. It is proved that the lattice of all τ-closed m-multiply ω-saturated formations is not a sublattice of the lattice of all τ-closed n-multiply ω-saturated formations.

The Group Formation Problem: An Algorithmic Approach to Learning Group Formation

2014
Fostering knowledge exchange among peers is important for learners' motivation, achievement of learning goals as well as improvement of problem solving competency. Still, the positive effects of such an exchange depend strongly on the suitability of the selected peers in a group.

Group Formation for Small-Group Learning

Proceedings of the 12th International Symposium on Open Collaboration, 2016
There is an underexploited potential in enhancing massive online learning courses through small-group learning activities. Size and diversity allow for optimizing group composition in small-group tasks. The purpose of this paper was to investigate how groups formed based on learner behavior affect productivity of students in a small-group task ...

Group Intimacy and Network Formation

2015 11th International Conference on Signal-Image Technology & Internet-Based Systems (SITIS), 2015
Recent development of information technology allows us to efficiently communicate with others, sharing common interest and finding new friends. Numerous online communities are formed and disappear, but only a few survive the competition. Even after the survival, they eventually suffer from a decline as time goes on.

Group Format and Group Work

2018
This chapter specifically describes how to facilitate groups, teaching and instructional methods, roles and responsibilities for facilitators, and cultural awareness in the Sí, Yo Puedo program. The chapter describes the importance of understanding the cultural dynamics among group members, diversity in groups, and the dual role and self-disclosure ...
