Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Correlation of Water Quality with OCR and SOD of Humpback Grouper in Net Cages in Concrete Ponds with Different Stocking Densities

open access: yesGrouper
The humpback grouper (Cromileptes altivelis) is one of the high-value commodities in Indonesia. Humpback grouper production from the cultivation sector has not been able to reach the expected production volume.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Annelid Biodiversity In Dead Corals Against Pollution In Tarahan Island

open access: yesGrouper
Tarahan Island is one of the small islands located in the waters of Banten Bay, Banten Province. This study aims to determine the cryptic organisms found on dead corals and determine the level of seawater pollution with TSS, BOD, COD parameters used as ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

The Effect of Feeding Natural Feed of Daphnia sp. Enriched with Viterna on the Growth of Gourami Fry (Osphronemus gouramy)

open access: yesGrouper
This study aimed to determine the growth performance of gourami fish (Osphronemus gouramy) fed with Daphnia sp. enriched with Viterna at different doses. The research used an experimental method with four treatments and three replications. The treatments
