Ephrin-A/EphA specific co-adaptation as a novel mechanism in topographic axon guidance

open access: yeseLife, 2017
Genetic hardwiring during brain development provides computational architectures for innate neuronal processing. Thus, the paradigmatic chick retinotectal projection, due to its neighborhood preserving, topographic organization, establishes millions of ...

Regulation of growth cone behavior by calcium [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Neuroscience, 1991
Few structures within the nervous system have received more attention than the neuronal growth cone. Initially named by Ramon y Cajal (1890) who recognized its dynamics and importance in histological sections, the growth cone plays essential roles in the development, repair, and modification of neuronal circuitry. Growth cones have a diverse repertoire

Self‐Cascade Catalytic Reaction–Assisted Apoptosis/Calcicoptosis/Ferroptosis Induction with Microsphere‐Aggregated Hydrogels in Triple‐Negative Breast Cancer Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Hyaluronic acid‐dopamine‐based intra‐crosslinked microsphere including cisplatin (HPC MS) is fabricated by spray‐drying and calcium/iron ions are introduced for interparticle crosslinking. Designed microsphere‐aggregated hydrogel (MAH) system including cisplatin/CaO2/FeSO4 can provide apoptosis/calcicoptosis/ferroptosis‐mediated chemo/cascade ...

Competition and cooperation among receptor tyrosine phosphatases control motoneuron growth cone guidance in Drosophila [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
The neural receptor tyrosine phosphatases DPTP69D, DPTP99A and DLAR are involved in motor axon guidance in the Drosophila embryo. Here we analyze the requirements for these three phosphatases in growth cone guidance decisions along the ISN and SNb ...

Increasing radial solutions for Neumann problems without growth restrictions

open access: yes, 2011
We study the existence of positive increasing radial solutions for superlinear Neumann problems in the ball. We do not impose any growth condition on the nonlinearity at infinity and our assumptions allow for interactions with the spectrum.

Bioorthogonal Engineering of Cellular Microenvironments Using Isonitrile Ligations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Highly selective chemistries are required for fabrication and post‐cross–linking modification of cell‐encapsulating hydrogels used in tissue engineering applications. Isonitrile ligation reactions represent a promising class of bioorthogonal chemistries for engineering hydrogel‐based cellular microenvironments. Isonitrile‐based hydrogels are stable and

Engineered Peptides‐Based Hybrid‐Nested Microneedle Effectively Treat Biofilm‐Infected Diabetic Wounds

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A hybrid‐nested microneedle/cryogel scaffold (MQW‐CMg‐MOF) is designed for efficient biofilm removal and accelerated healing of diabetic wounds. The scaffold shows substantial biofilm removal in vitro and in a preclinical diabetic swine biofilm‐infected wound model compared to the control.

Cone types and asymptotic invariants for the random walk on the modular group

open access: yes, 2023
We compute the cone types of the Cayley graph of the modular group $\mathrm{PSL}(2,\mathbf{Z})$ associated with the standard system of generators ${\small\left\{\left(\begin{smallmatrix} 0 & -1 \\ 1 & 0 \end{smallmatrix}\right),\left(\begin{smallmatrix ...

Characterization of spontaneous calcium transients in nerve growth cones and their effect on growth cone migration

open access: yesNeuron, 1995
This study examines the mechanisms of spontaneous and induced [Ca2+]i spiking in nerve growth cones and the effect of spikes on growth cone migration. Over a 10-20 min observation period, 29% of DRG growth cones undergo spontaneous and transient elevations in physiological extracellular Ca2+ ((Ca2+)o; 2 mM), whereas 67% of growth cones exposed to 20 mM

Autonomous Control of Extrusion Bioprinting Using Convolutional Neural Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents a novel computer vision system for high‐fidelity monitoring of extrusion‐based bioprinting and a correction system utilizing convolutional neural networks for error mitigation. This system has demonstrated high detection accuracy and extrusion correction abilities that advance the state of the art toward accelerated printing ...
