Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

The Russian Military-Industrial Complex as a Factor of National Security and Sustainable Socio-Economic Development

open access: yesЭкономика и управление, 2019
This study examines the role of the militaryindustrial complex (MIC) in creating opportunities for sustainable socio-economic development and national security of the Russian Federation. Tasks.

Inhibition of the Staphylococcus aureus c-di-AMP cyclase DacA by direct interaction with the phosphoglucosamine mutase GlmM.

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2019
c-di-AMP is an important second messenger molecule that plays a pivotal role in regulating fundamental cellular processes, including osmotic and cell wall homeostasis in many Gram-positive organisms.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Mussel-Inspired Tissue-Adhesive Hydrogel Based on the Polydopamine–Chondroitin Sulfate Complex for Growth-Factor-Free Cartilage Regeneration

open access: yes, 2018
Glycosaminoglycan-based hydrogels are widely used for cartilage repair because glycosaminoglycans are the main component of the cartilage extracellular matrix and can maintain chondrocyte functions.

Topoisomerase IIα promotes activation of RNA polymerase I transcription by facilitating pre-initiation complex formation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Type II DNA topoisomerases catalyse DNA double-strand cleavage, passage and re-ligation to effect topological changes. There is considerable interest in elucidating topoisomerase II roles, particularly as these proteins are targets for anti-cancer drugs.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Differential Regulation of Growth-Promoting Signalling Pathways by E-Cadherin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background: Despite the well-documented association between loss of E-cadherin and carcinogenesis, as well as the link between restoration of its expression and suppression of proliferation in carcinoma cells, the ability of E-cadherin to modulate growth-

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Local ligand concentration gradients induced by the plasma membrane

open access: yesiScience
Summary: The plasma membrane is a dynamic structure surrounded by the extracellular matrix. Although stimulation of transmembrane proteins by soluble ligands takes place in this environment, its influence on receptor activation is usually overlooked.
