Growth hormone and the heart

open access: yesClinical Endocrinology, 2001
Impaired cardiovascular function has recently been demonstrated to potentially reduce life expectancy both in GH deficiency and excess. Experimental and clinical studies have supported the evidence that GH and IGF‐I are implicated in cardiac development. In most patients with acromegaly a specific cardiomyopathy, characterized by myocardial hypertrophy

Plasma lipidomic and metabolomic profiles in high‐grade glioma patients before and after 72‐h presurgery water‐only fasting

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Presurgery 72‐h fasting in GB patients leads to adaptations of plasma lipids and polar metabolites. Fasting reduces lysophosphatidylcholines and increases free fatty acids, shifts triglycerides toward long‐chain TGs and increases branched‐chain amino acids, alpha aminobutyric acid, and uric acid.

Porcine growth hormone induces the nuclear localization of porcine growth hormone receptor [PDF]

open access: yesAsian-Australasian Journal of Animal Sciences, 2018
Objective Recent studies have challenged the traditional paradigm that growth hormone receptor (GHR) displays physiological functions only in the cell membrane.

The Application of Principal Component Analysis on Clinical and Biochemical Parameters Exemplified in Children With Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2021
PurposePrincipal component analysis (PCA) is a mathematical model which simplifies data into new, combined variables. Optimal treatment of pediatric congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) remains a challenge and requires evaluation of all biochemical and ...

Thermal proteome profiling and proteome analysis using high‐definition mass spectrometry demonstrate modulation of cholesterol biosynthesis by next‐generation galeterone analog VNPP433‐3β in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Elevated level of cholesterol is positively correlated to prostate cancer development and disease severity. Cholesterol‐lowering drugs, such as statins, are demonstrated to inhibit prostate cancer. VNPP433‐3β interrupts multiple signaling and metabolic pathways, including cholesterol biosynthesis, AR‐mediated transcription of several oncogenes, mRNA 5′

Adult growth hormone deficiency – benefits, side effects, and risks of growth hormone replacement

open access: yesFrontiers in Endocrinology, 2013
Deficiency of growth hormone (GH) in adults results in a syndrome characterized by decreased muscle mass and exercise capacity, increased visceral fat, impaired quality of life, unfavorable alterations in lipid profile and markers of cardiovascular risk,

A large‐scale retrospective study in metastatic breast cancer patients using circulating tumour DNA and machine learning to predict treatment outcome and progression‐free survival

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
There is an unmet need in metastatic breast cancer patients to monitor therapy response in real time. In this study, we show how a noninvasive and affordable strategy based on sequencing of plasma samples with longitudinal tracking of tumour fraction paired with a statistical model provides valuable information on treatment response in advance of the ...

Time, the final frontier

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This article advocates integrating temporal dynamics into cancer research. Rather than relying on static snapshots, researchers should increasingly consider adopting dynamic methods—such as live imaging, temporal omics, and liquid biopsies—to track how tumors evolve over time.

Vitamin D and growth hormone in children: a review of the current scientific knowledge

open access: yesJournal of Translational Medicine, 2019
Background Human growth is a complex mechanism that depends on genetic, environmental, nutritional and hormonal factors. The main hormone involved in growth at each stage of development is growth hormone (GH) and its mediator, insulin-like growth factor ...

Targeted protein degradation in oncology: novel therapeutic opportunity for solid tumours?

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Current anticancer therapies are limited by the occurrence of resistance and undruggability of most proteins. Targeted protein degraders are novel, promising agents that trigger the selective degradation of previously undruggable proteins through the recruitment of the ubiquitin–proteasome machinery. Their mechanism of action raises exciting challenges,
