Memory in the wall: expanding our understanding of the roles of plant cell walls

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary The plant cell wall, while providing mechanical support to cells, also dynamically adjusts its composition and structure in response to cellular and environmental cues. Recent findings indicate that plants exposed to cold stress alter the composition of cell wall polysaccharides and that this altered status primes the plants to overcome future,

Loss of E3 ligase HvST1 function substantially increases distal crossover frequency

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary This study characterizes the function of a grass‐specific E3 ubiquitin ligase, HvST1, in regulating synapsis and crossover (CO) formation during meiosis in barley (Hordeum vulgare). In large‐genome cereals, COs are predominantly restricted to distal chromosomal regions, limiting genetic recombination and breeding flexibility.

Association Between Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms and Disease Susceptibility, Survival, and Acute Exacerbation in Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis

open access: yesRespirology, EarlyView.
A polymorphism of DSP was associated with prognosis and acute exacerbation in Japanese individuals with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), and a polymorphism of TERT was associated with prognosis in the patients with IPF and acute exacerbation in those with unclassifiable idiopathic interstitial pneumonias, indicating the potential of personalised ...
