The metabolic fate of labeled guanine and of prelabeled guanine nucleotides (GuRN) was studied in cultured rat cardiomyocytes. Special attention was given to guanine salvage in comparison to degradation; to the contribution of GuRN to adenine nucleotides (AdRN); to the fluxes from GMP to IMP and from IMP to GMP; and to the degradation pathways of GuRN.

Several studies have shown that experimentally added guanine nucleotides (GN) may extracellularly modulate the glutamatergic system. However, there is no previous report of the extracellular occurrence of GN in the CNS. This study used HPLC to investigate the presence of GN in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) samples of 26 patients.

Regulation of phosphoinositide breakdown by guanine nucleotides

In this contribution we report on a study of conformational changes of guanine in the temperature range from 300 to 600 K. We have used a new molecular dynamics with charges at bonds and have studied time dependence of interatomic distances for the first and second neighbors at these temperatures.

Guanine nucleotide binding characteristics of transducin: essential role of rhodopsin for rapid exchange of guanine nucleotides

Transducin (Gt) is a member of a family of receptor-coupled signal-transducing guanine nucleotide (GN) binding proteins (G-proteins). Light-activated rhodopsin is known to catalyze GN exchange on Gt, resulting in the formation of the active state of the Gt alpha-GTP complex.

We compared, by immunoblotting and immunohistochemical staining, the distribution of the alpha subunit of Go in human normal brain tissue with that in human brain tumours of neuroectodermal origin.
