Associations between purine metabolites and clinical symptoms in schizophrenia [PDF]
Background: The antioxidant defense system, which is known to be dysregulated in schizophrenia, is closely linked to the dynamics of purine pathway. Thus, alterations in the homeostatic balance in the purine pathway may be involved in the pathophysiology

Antiparkinsonian Efficacy of Guanosine in Rodent Models of Movement Disorder
Guanosine (GUO) is a guanine-based purine nucleoside with important trophic functions and promising neuroprotective properties. Although the neuroprotective effects of GUO have been corroborated in cellular models of Parkinson’s disease (PD), its ...

Impact of C-Terminal Chemistry on Self-Assembled Morphology of Guanosine Containing Nucleopeptides
Herein, we report the design and characterization of guanosine-containing self-assembling nucleopeptides that form nanosheets and nanofibers. Through spectroscopy and microscopy analysis, we propose that the peptide component of the nucleopeptide drives ...

Conformational changes in the GTPase modules of the signal reception particle and its receptor drive initiation of protein translocation [PDF]
During cotranslational protein targeting, two guanosine triphosphatase (GTPase) in the signal recognition particle (SRP) and its receptor (SR) form a unique complex in which hydrolyses of both guanosine triphosphates (GTP) are activated in a shared ...

Determination of total potentially available nucleosides in bovine milk [PDF]
Bovine colostrum and milk samples were collected from two herds over the course of the first month post-partum, pooled for each herd by stage of lactation and total potentially available nucleosides were determined.

Dynamics of Microtubule Growth and Catastrophe [PDF]
We investigate a simple model of microtubule dynamics in which a microtubule evolves by: (i) attachment of guanosine triphosphate (GTP) to its end at rate lambda, (ii) GTP converting irreversibly to guanosine diphosphate (GDP) at rate 1, and (iii) detachment of GDP from the end of a microtubule at rate mu.

Survival of neurons is dependent on the presence of trophic and non-trophic factors. We have previously observed the protective capacity of purine nucleosides in hypoxic neuronal cell cultures.

Dynamics of Microtubule Instabilities [PDF]
We investigate the dynamics of an idealized model of microtubule growth that evolves by: (i) attachment of guanosine triphosphate (GTP) at rate lambda, (ii) conversion of GTP to guanosine diphosphate (GDP) at rate 1, and (iii) detachment of GDP at rate mu. As a function of these rates, a microtubule can grow steadily or its length can fluctuate wildly.

Guanosine Protects Neuronal PC12 Cells from Serum Deprivation-induced Cell Death
Survival of neurons is dependent on the presence of trophic and non-trophic factors. Previous findings showed that purine nucleosides have the potential to rescue cells from hypoxia-induced cell death. Here we demonstrate that purine nucleoside guanosine
