Uncoupling conformational change from GTP hydrolysis in a heterotrimeric G protein alpha-subunit [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Heterotrimeric G protein alpha (G alpha) subunits possess intrinsic GTPase activity that leads to functional deactivation with a rate constant of approximately 2 min(-1) at 30 degrees C.

Barium and Calcium Stimulate Secretion from Digitonin-Permeabilized Bovine Adrenal Chromaffin Cells by Similar Pathways [PDF]

open access: yes, 1992
We compared the characteristics of secretion stimulated by EGTA-buffered Ba 2+ - and Ca 2+ -containing solutions in digitonin-permeabilized bovine adrenal chromaffin cells.

Transport in hybrid electronic devices based on a modified DNA nucleoside (deoxyguanosine) [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2000
We report on a new class of hybrid electronic devices based on a DNA nucleoside (deoxyguanosine lipophilic derivative) whose assembled polymeric ribbons interconnect a submicron metallic gate. The device exhibits large conductivity at room temperature, rectifying behaviour and strong current-voltage hysteresis.

Pilot study of electrochemical reduction of selected nucleotides and double-stranded DNA at pristine micro-/ultrananocrystalline boron-doped diamond electrodes at very negative potentials [PDF]

open access: yes
Pristine polycrystalline boron-doped diamond electrodes (BDDEs) -- microcrystalline (B-MCDE) and ultrananocrystalline (B-UNCDE) were applied for the electrochemical reduction of several selected purine nucleotides -- Guanosine 5'-monophosphate (GMP), 2'-Deoxyguanosine 5'-monophosphate (dGMP), Adenosine 5'-monophosphate (AMP), Adenosine 5'-diphosphate ...

How the sperm triggers the fertilisation calcium wave in the sea urchin egg [PDF]

open access: yes, 1990
Fertilisation is characterised by an increase in cytosolic free calcium (Ca). This crucial event transforms the egg, releasing it from its state of cell cycle arrest and stimulating embryonic development.

Transition state structures and the roles of catalytic residues in GAP-facilitated GTPase of Ras as elucidated by (18)O kinetic isotope effects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Ras-catalyzed guanosine 5\u27 triphosphate (GTP) hydrolysis proceeds through a loose transition state as suggested in our previous study of (18)O kinetic isotope effects (KIE) [ Du , X. et al. ( 2004 ) Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. U.S.A.
