Metabolism of Guanosine Tetraphosphate in Escherichia coli

European Journal of Biochemistry, 1972
In rel+ strains of Escherichia coli guanosine 2′(3′)‐diphosphate‐5′‐diphosphate (ppGpp) was found to accumulate (a) during amino acid starvation of an auxotrophic strain, (b) during heating to the non‐permissive temperature of a valSts strain, (c) during heating of a wild‐type strain to temperatures above 46°C and (d) during treatment with trimethoprim

Accumulation and turnover of guanosine tetraphosphate in Escherichia coli

Journal of Molecular Biology, 1972
Abstract A strain ofEscherichia coli B possessing a temperature-labile valyl-transfer RNA synthetase (strain NF 342) has been used to study guanosine tetraphosphate metabolism. Culturing this strain at a variety of temperatures intermediate between the permissive and non-permissive (30 to 42 °C) yielded a range of growth rates, presumably as a result

Phosphoglycerate kinase from yeast synthesizes guanosine 5'-tetraphosphate.

Biochemistry international, 1990
Yeast phosphoglycerate kinase (PGK; EC 2.7.2.3) synthesizes adenosine 5'-tetraphosphate (ppppA) from ATP and 1,3-bisphosphoglycerate. Using an HPLC assay, we have shown the synthesis of guanosine 5'-tetraphosphate (ppppG; 0.17 nmol.min-1.PGK unit-1) characterized by its u.v. spectrum, HPLC behavior, and enzymatic digestions. That the synthesis of ppppG
