Burmannic Acid With Normal Cell Safety Exhibits ROS‐Mediated X‐Ray‐Sensitizing Effects on Oral Cancer Cells

open access: yesChemistrySelect, Volume 11, Issue 36, 22 September 2026.
Burmannic acid (BURA) boosts radiosensitivity in oral cancer: combined with x‐rays, it suppresses tumor growth while sparing normal cells by increasing reactive oxygen species (ROS, MitoSOX), causing G2/M arrest, sub‐G1 accumulation, mitochondrial dysfunction, DNA damage, and apoptosis; these effects are reversed by N‐acetylcysteine. Therefore, BURA is

Supraphysiological 25‐Hydroxyvitamin D3 and Calcipotriol Induce Reactive Oxygen Species, Mitochondrial Dysfunction and Apoptosis in HeLa Cervical Cancer Cells

open access: yesFASEB BioAdvances, Volume 8, Issue 9, September 2026.
Supraphysiological 25(OH)D3 and calcipotriol induced ROS accumulation or redox disturbance, increased mitochondrial membrane depolarization, reduced antioxidant enzyme activity, and caused apoptotic cell death in HeLa cells. ABSTRACT Cervical cancer remains a major global health challenge, necessitating continued advances in therapeutic strategies ...

Agricultural By‐Products as Secondary Risk Matrices: Hazard Occurrence, Contaminant Fate, Mitigation Strategies, and Regulatory Considerations in Food Systems

open access: yesComprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety, Volume 25, Issue 5, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Agricultural by‐products are increasingly valorized as food ingredients within circular food systems. However, their safety cannot be directly inferred from their corresponding primary commodities. Moreover, agricultural by‐products serve as secondary risk matrices by acting as reservoirs or accumulation points for microbiological hazards ...

Pollination in the tropics: role of pollinator in guava production

open access: yes, 2021
Pollinators are the key point for successful pollination in most flowering plants where around 90% of plants depend entirely on them. Majority of the pollinating species are wild, comprising bees, certain species of flies, wasps, moths, butterflies ...

The Effects of Agricultural Landscape on the Functional Diversity of Bird Species in the Neotropical Dryland

open access: yesAustral Ecology, Volume 51, Issue 9, September 2026.
Landscape complexity and configuration influence bird functional diversity and the distribution of functional groups across natural and degraded land‐cover types. The graphical abstract illustrates how increasing landscape complexity and configuration are associated with higher functional diversity (FD), functional richness (FRic) and functional ...

Making Mining Licit: Gold, Commodification, and the Everyday Performance of Law in Colombia

open access: yesAmerican Anthropologist, Volume 128, Issue 3, Page 480-493, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Ethnographies of resource‐making have shown that the extraction of resource value from objects is premised on obviating the emplaced lifeworlds that surrounded objects before they traveled to consumer markets. Much of this literature looks at such supply‐chain disentanglement from the viewpoint of corporate and formal regulatory practices ...

Tipping Points in Bacterial Richness Amplify Extracellular Enzyme Activities in Northern Peatlands

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology, Volume 32, Issue 9, September 2026.
Using a trans‐Holarctic survey in Sphagnum‐dominated peatlands, we identify a critical bacterial biodiversity threshold. Below this threshold, ecosystem function shifts, increasing enzyme activities by 60%, potentially accelerating carbon turnover. This weakens the peatland carbon sink, emphasizing the need to safeguard diversity.

Chemical and Biochemical Characterization of Guava and Araca Fruits from Different Regions of Brazil

open access: yes, 2012
Guava and araca, species of the Psidium genus, are important options for Brazilian agribusiness, especially the former species, due to their fruit characteristics, such as appearance, taste and richness in minerals and phenolic compounds.

Guava Leaves and Fruits Dataset for Guava Disease Recognition through Machine Learning and Deep Learning

open access: yes, 2022
(1) Plant diseases are the primary cause of reduced productivity in agriculture, which results in economic losses. Guava is an important source of nutrients like vitamin C in plants all around the world.
