Studies on the Electron Reconstruction Efficiency for the Beam Calorimeter of an ILC Detector [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2010
In this talk recent simulation results on the single high energy electron reconstruction with the Beam Calorimeter for the ILD detector are presented. Guinea Pig is used to generate the e+e- pair background and GEANT4 for the simulation of electron showers in the calorimeter.

Label-free optical vibrational spectroscopy to detect the metabolic state of M. tuberculosis cells at the site of disease [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Tuberculosis relapse is a barrier to shorter treatment. It is thought that lipid rich cells, phenotypically resistant to antibiotics, may play a major role. Most studies investigating relapse use sputum samples although tissue bacteria may play an important role. We developed a non-destructive, label-free technique combining wavelength modulated Raman (

Cochlear Implantation in the Guinea Pig [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Visualized Experiments, 2018
Cochlear implants are highly efficient devices that can restore hearing in subjects with profound hearing loss. Due to improved speech perception outcomes, candidacy criteria have been expanded over the last few decades. This includes patients with substantial residual hearing that benefit from electrical and acoustical stimulation of the same ear ...

Locus Coeruleus Noradrenergic‐Spinal Projections Contribute to Electroacupuncture‐Mediated Antinociception in Postoperative Pain in Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
How locus coeruleus noradrenergic‐spinal projections and subsequent α2A adrenoceptors‐CaMKII signaling cascades contribute to electroacupuncture‐induced antinociception in postoperative pain in mice is described. Abstract Postoperative pain remains a significant challenge in healthcare.

Generalized inverse xgamma distribution: A non-monotone hazard rate model [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
In this article, a generalized inverse xgamma distribution (GIXGD) has been introduced as the generalized version of the inverse xgamma distribution. The proposed model exhibits the pattern of non-monotone hazard rate and belongs to family of positively skewed models. The explicit expressions of some distributional properties, such as, moments, inverse

Efficient Pig Counting in Crowds with Keypoints Tracking and Spatial-aware Temporal Response Filtering [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
Pig counting is a crucial task for large-scale pig farming, which is usually completed by human visually. But this process is very time-consuming and error-prone. Few studies in literature developed automated pig counting method. Existing methods only focused on pig counting using single image, and its accuracy is challenged by several factors ...

Ontogeny of the malleus in Mesocricetus auratus (Mammalia, Rodentia): Systematic and functional implications for the muroid middle ear

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract The three mammalian auditory ossicles enhance sound transmission from the tympanic membrane to the inner ear. The anterior anchoring of the malleus is one of the key characters for functional classification of the auditory ossicles. Previous studies revealed a medial outgrowth of the mallear anterior process, the processus internus ...

Coding Capacity of Purkinje Cells with Different Schemes of Morphological Reduction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The brain as a neuronal system has very complex structure with large diversity of neuronal types. The most basic complexity is seen from the structure of neuronal morphology, which usually has a complex tree-like structure with dendritic spines distributed in branches.

Necrosis of a Guinea Pig Stomach after Contact with Povidone-Iodine: a Case Report [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Rodents are the most frequently used animals in surgical experimentation. It is estimated that guinea pigs in particular are the third most commonly used species in this context.

Discovery of AZD3199, an inhaled ultralong acting β2 receptor agonist with rapid onset of action [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A series of dibasic des-hydroxy β2 receptor agonists has been prepared and evaluated for potential as inhaled ultra-long acting bronchodilators. Determination of activities at the human β-adrenoreceptors demonstrated a series of highly potent and ...
