Artemisia santolinifolia-Mediated Chemosensitization via Activation of Distinct Cell Death Modes and Suppression of STAT3/Survivin-Signaling Pathways in NSCLC

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
Conventional chemotherapy remains an integral part of lung cancer therapy, regardless of its toxicity and drug resistance. Consequently, the discovery of an alternative to conventional chemotherapy is critical.

ESCIN MITIGATES HYPOXIA MIMICKING NCI-H23 CELLS THROUGH MODULATION OF MMPs, HIF-1α AND HIF-2α

open access: yesInternational Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2020
Objective: The objective of the study is to investigate the effect of escin in hypoxia mimicked NCI-H23 cells through the modulation of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) 2 and 9. Methods: In escin-treated NCI-H23 cells, adhesion, migration, and invasion were detected by the adhesion, wound healing, and Boyden chamber assays, respectively.

Activation of a nonexpressed hypoxanthine phosphoribosyltransferase allele in mutant H23 HeLa cells by agents that inhibit DNA methylation. [PDF]

open access: yesMolecular and Cellular Biology, 1986
HeLA H23 cells are a mutant female human tumor cell line harboring defective hypoxanthine phosphoribosyltransferase (HPRT; IMP-pyrophosphate phosphoribosyltransferase, EC 2.4.2.8) as a result of a mutation that alters the isoelectric point of the enzyme (G. Milman, E. Lee, G. S. Changas, J. R. McLaughlin, and J. George, Jr., Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci.

Evolution of Crematogaster sordidula (Hymenoptera, Formicidae) Ants in the Mediterranean Region During Plio‐Pleistocene Climatic Changes

open access: yesZoologica Scripta, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Understanding insect responses to global climate change involves identifying strategies used during past climate oscillations. Phylogeography offers a powerful framework to unravel how historical climatic and geological events have shaped the spatial genetic patterns of species, providing critical insights into evolutionary processes, whereas ...

Cerebral oxygen extraction across different exercise intensities: Role of arterial PCO2${P_{{\mathrm{C}}{{\mathrm{O}}_2}}}$

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract Stability in cerebral oxygen extraction fraction (OEF) is typically determined by alterations in cerebral blood flow (CBF). At rest, arterial partial pressure of carbon dioxide (PaCO2${P_{{\mathrm{aC}}{{\mathrm{O}}_2}}}$) and OEF exhibit a strong inverse relationship owing to the powerful influence of PaCO2${P_{{\mathrm{aC}}{{\mathrm{O}}_2}}}$

MTH1 deficiency selectively increases non-cytotoxic oxidative DNA damage in lung cancer cells: more bad news than good?

open access: yesBMC Cancer, 2018
Background Targeted therapies are based on exploiting cancer-cell-specific genetic features or phenotypic traits to selectively kill cancer cells while leaving normal cells unaffected. Oxidative stress is a cancer hallmark phenotype.

Cytotoxic Activities of Physalis minima L. Chloroform Extract on Human Lung Adenocarcinoma NCI‐H23 Cell Lines by Induction of Apoptosis [PDF]

open access: yesEvidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, 2011
Physalis minima L. is reputed for having anticancer property. In this study, the chloroform extract of this plant exhibited remarkable cytotoxic activities on NCI‐H23 (human lung adenocarcinoma) cell line at dose‐ and time‐dependent manners (after 24, 48 and 72 h of incubation).

Elevated carotid body tonic activity contributes to ventilatory acclimatization and de‐acclimatization to high altitude at rest and during exercise

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend Participants spent 13 days at high altitude (3800 m), where the reduced inspired oxygen pressure (↓PiO2$ \downarrow {P_{{\mathrm{i}}{{\mathrm{O}}_2}}}$) which elicited ventilatory acclimatization and increased inhibition of ventilation by transient hyperoxia (ΔV̇E$\Delta {\dot V_{\mathrm{E}}}$).

Extracellular vesicles secreted by hypoxia pre-challenged mesenchymal stem cells promote non-small cell lung cancer cell growth and mobility as well as macrophage M2 polarization via miR-21-5p delivery

open access: yesJournal of Experimental & Clinical Cancer Research, 2019
Objective To investigate the lung cancer-promoting mechanism of mesenchymal stem cell-secreted extracellular vesicles (MSC-EV). Methods EV were isolated from culture media of human bone marrow-derived MSCs that were pre-challenged with or without hypoxia
