Possibilities for drag reduction by boundary layer control [PDF]
The mechanics of laminar boundary layer transition are reviewed. Drag possibilities for boundary layer control are analyzed using assumed conditions of transition Reynolds number, inlet loss, number of slots, blower efficiency, and duct losses.

Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

Evaluation of radiation shielding properties of the polyvinyl alcohol/iron oxide polymer composite
Context: Lead is the conventional shielding material against gamma/X-rays. It has some limitations such as toxic, high density, nonflexibility, and also bremsstrahlung production during electron interaction.

S-wave superconductivity near a surface
We study the superconducting order parameter near a surface with the Bogoliubov-de Gennes formalism. For definiteness we use the attractive Hubbard model.

Determination of Some Heavyweight Aggregate Half Value Layer Thickness Used for Radiation Shielding
A radiation dose above the maximum permissible limit is very dangerous for human being. In radiation shielding, absorbent materials’ properties must be well known. Heavyweight concrete is the most widely used in the world for this aim. The aggregate component of concrete plays an important role in improving concrete properties and this is effect of ...

Disordered (Fe50Co50)1−xPtx thin films exhibit a pronounced anomalous Nernst effect (ANE) with a strong composition dependence on both rigid and flexible substrates. The transverse thermoelectric response peaks near 22.5 at.% Pt, accompanied by enhanced αxy/σxy scaling, thermal transport, and ANE sensitivity.

DOF phase separation of the Lennard-Jones fcc(111) surface
Recent lattice model calculations have suggested that a full-layered crystal surface may undergo, under canonical (particle-conserving) conditions, a preroughening-driven two-dimensional phase separation into two disordered flat (DOF) regions, of ...

The presented study focuses on the fracture behaviour of carbon‐bonded magnesia MgO–C refractories, where environmentally friendly fructose, collagen and lignin serve as temporary binding agents. The partial substitution of the source material with recycled MgO–C reduces the fracture resistance, which can be counteracted by the additional introduction ...

Impact of concentration of Bi2O3 on gamma ray shielding efficiency of BaTiO3 composite ceramics
This study primary goal is to provide information on the structural changes and improved radiation shielding qualities of BaTiO3 (barium titanate) ceramics that have been added to Bi2O3 (bismuth trioxide) compound, which is made using a solid-state ...
