Proteolytic Enzymes from Extremely Halophilic Bacteria [PDF]
SUMMARY: Halobacterium strains produce a truly extracellular proteinase which degrades gelatine and casein. It has a pH optimum of about 8 and depends upon divalent cations and a high concentration of NaCl or KCl for activity and stability. Proteolytic enzymes were also found in cell homogenates obtained by ultra sonic treatment.

Molecular mechanisms of adaptation of the moderately halophilic bacterium Halobacillis halophilus to its environment [PDF]
The capability of osmoadaptation is a prerequisite of organisms that live in an environment with changing salinities. Halobacillus halophilus is a moderately halophilic bacterium that grows between 0.4 and 3 M NaCl by accumulating both chloride and ...

Fate and impact of organics in an immersed membrane bioreactor applied to brine denitrification and ion exchange regeneration [PDF]
The application of membrane bioreactors (MBRs) to brine denitrification for ion exchange regeneration has been studied. The developed culture was capable of complete brine denitrification at 50 gNaCl.l−1.

Fructose metabolism in Chromohalobacter salexigens: interplay between the Embden–Meyerhof–Parnas and Entner–Doudoroff pathways [PDF]
Background The halophilic bacterium Chromohalobacter salexigens metabolizes glucose exclusively through the Entner–Doudoroff (ED) pathway, an adaptation which results in inefficient growth, with significant carbon overflow, especially at low salinity ...

Isolation and Antimicrobial Activity of Halophilic Bacteria Isolated from Saline Soil of Shushtar City, Iran [PDF]
Background: The rise of multi-drug-resistant bacteria seriously threatens human health. Some microorganisms can produce new antimicrobials that have effects on multidrug-resistant bacteria. On the other hand, halophilic bacteria show promise in producing

HaloDom: a new database of halophiles across all life domains
Background Halophilic organisms may thrive in or tolerate high salt concentrations. They have been studied for decades and a considerable number of papers reporting new halophilic species are being published every year.

Effect of Storage of Yellow Pigment from Halophilic Bacillus clausii J1G-0%B on Antioxidant Activity
Oxidative stress is a state of excess free radicals in the body, which results in increased oxidation processes in the body’s cells and causes damage. In previous studies, one way to neutralize this situation was found, namely with halophilic bacteria ...
