Eco‐Microbiology: a frugal‐circular pedagogical framework for biosafe, low‐cost, low‐impact microbiology in secondary education—This graphical abstract summarises the Eco‐Microbiology framework, which integrates frugality as a behavioural and design principle (minimal extraction, maximal conservation and upstream waste prevention) alongside biosafety ...

The polar regions harbor uniquely diverse organisms adapted to low temperatures. Strains obtained from these regions are likely to produce enzymes that are industrially useful at low temperatures. In this study, a Halomonas sp.

We combined α‐ and β‐diversity to investigate the community assembly of soil microarthropods (Collembola, Oribatida, Mesostigmata) along a salt marsh transect from the upper salt marsh to the lower salt marsh to the pioneer zone on three islands in the Wadden Sea of Germany. The results suggest that soil microarthropod communities in the dynamic marine–

Discovering PETases: An Interlink Between Engineering Enzymes and Microbiomes
In this review‐type article, we discuss some recent trends in the identification of polyethylene terephthalate‐degrading enzymes (PETases) from nature. We highlight that the discovery of novel PETases can be improved by an interlink between reshaping microbiomes and engineering proteins.

Isolation of Halophilic and Halotolerant Microorganisms from the Bakhtegan Lake and the Effect of Physicochemical Factors on Their Frequency [PDF]
The lake in the protected Bakhtegan zone is the shelter to wildlife and very important from an ecological and environmental viewpoint. The lake has a unique diversity in terms of Halophilic and Halotolerant bacteria.

We previously used whole-genome sequencing and Tn5 transposon mutagenesis to identify 16 critical genes involved in the halotolerance of Halomonas beimenensis, a species in the phylum Proteobacteria. In this present study, we sought to determine if orthologous genes in another phylum are also critical for halotolerance. Virgibacillus spp.

Organic compatible solutes of halotolerant and halophilic microorganisms [PDF]
Abstract Microorganisms that adapt to moderate and high salt environments use a variety of solutes, organic and inorganic, to counter external osmotic pressure. The organic solutes can be zwitterionic, noncharged, or anionic (along with an inorganic cation such as K+).
