The cyclical nature of aridity and humidity led to the alternating deposition of dolomite‐rich and calcite‐rich sediments. During arid phases, the lake hydrology and growth of microbial mats under evaporative and hypersaline environment favors the precipitation of dolomite.

Diverse living microbial communities showing stacked mats and finger‐like branching examples that grow with the support of reed grass (phytomicrobialites) as well as aragonitic stromatolitic tufa have been rediscovered in the alkaline and hypersaline Lake Nuoertu in the Badain Jaran Desert N. China.

ABSTRACT Produced water (PW) is the largest and most complex waste stream generated during oil and gas production, posing significant environmental, operational, and regulatory challenges due to its high salinity, dispersed hydrocarbons, toxic organics, heavy metals, and naturally occurring radioactive materials. Although numerous studies have reviewed

We investigated the survival of the yeast Rhodotorula frigidalcoholis and analysed its RNA after exposure to icy moon conditions. Our results show how the yeast can tolerate the extreme conditions and performs metabolic functions under the exposure conditions; for example, by halting the cell cycle in order to repair. Created in BioRender.

Two model strains of Synechococcus sp.—the marine RS9907 and the euryhaline WH5701—exhibit distinct physiological responses to salinity after long acclimations at optimal and cold growth temperatures. Transcriptomic and photochemical analyses reveal drastic differences in their regulatory strategies and photosynthetic activity across a salinity ...

Isolation of some bacteria for halophilic microbiome of Urmia Lake
Urmia Lake is the largest lake in the Iranian plateau and the second largest Salt Lake in the world. This study was conducted to identify hypersaline bacteria in the lake through the screening with molecular markers.

Extreme Salinity Change Governs Microbial Community Assembly and Interactions
Along the Coorong Lagoon's extreme salinity gradient, hypersalinity deterministically enriches halophilic specialists and reorganises sediment microbial networks. Network complexity peaks at salinity extremes, revealing pivotal ecological trade‐offs that will steer nutrient cycling and lagoon resilience as coastal wetland salinisation accelerates ...
