Implementation of genomic selection in Hanwoo breeding program

open access: yesKorean Journal of Agricultural Science, 2015
Quantitative traits are mostly controlled by a large number of genes. Some of these genes tend to have a large effect on quantitative traits in cattle and are known as major genes primarily located at quantitative trait loci (QTL). The genetic merit of animals can be estimated by genomic selection, which uses genome-wide SNP panels and statistical ...

Quality and Storage Characteristics of Hanwoo Pemmican by Replacing Canola Oil

open access: yesFood Science of Animal Resources
This study investigated the effects of replacing beef tallow with canola oil (CA) on the quality characteristics and storage stability of pemmican. Six treatment groups were established: CON (beef tallow), CA1 (2.5% CA), CA2 (5.0% CA), CA3 (7.5% CA), CA4 (10% CA), and CA5 (12.5% CA). Samples were stored at 4°C for 2 weeks.

Comparative analysis of the rumen microbiota of Brown Hanwoo, Jeju Black, and Brown Hanwoo × Jeju Black cross-bred steers

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Animal Science
This study examined the rumen microbiota of Brown Hanwoo, Jeju Black, and Brown Hanwoo × Jeju Black cross-bred steers reared under the same dietary and environmental conditions. Nine steers were included in the study, with three animals per genetic type, and all animals were fed the same total mixed ration.

Determination of Energy Requirements for Maintenance in Hanwoo Steers

open access: yesJournal of Animal Science and Technology, 2004
This experiment was carried out to determine energy requirements for maintenance of Hanwoo steers. Nine Hanwoo steers weighing 376.6 ± 12.5kg were used in this experiment and fed rice straw(44%) and concentrate (56%) at three different energy levels; 0.8 times maintenance(0.8M), 1.2 times(1.2M) and 1.6 times(1.6M), respectively.
