Hemopexin and haptoglobin: allies against heme toxicity from hemoglobin not contenders
The goal here is to describe our current understanding of heme metabolism and the deleterious effects of “free” heme on immunological processes, endothelial function, systemic inflammation, and various end-organ tissues (e.g., kidney, lung, liver, etc.),

ABSTRACT Posttraumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) is a common sequela to anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in humans and dogs. Identification of conserved targets between species may hasten biomarker identification and therapeutic development. To identify differentially regulated synovial fluid (SF) proteins in ACL injury, SF samples were collected ...

Haptoglobin release by human adipose tissue in primary culture
Haptoglobin is a putative adiposity marker because its concentration in blood is increased in obese humans. The present studies examined haptoglobin release by explants of adipose tissue in primary culture.

Haptoglobin Phenotypes in Epilepsy [PDF]
Seizures occur in ∼5% of people, and recur in >20% of that 5% (1)(2). The etiologies of most seizures are unknown, and head trauma is implicated in only 5–10% of cases (3). Blood or blood components, specifically iron, may be etiologically important; intracranial injection of hemoglobin (4), lysed erythrocytes (5), iron-containing proteins (5), or iron
