Head-Positioning Control Using Virtual Resonant Modes in a Hard Disk Drive

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Mechanical Design, Systems, and Manufacturing, 2007
In conventional control systems in hard disk drives, it is difficult to compensate for disturbances above the primary mechanical resonance. In this paper, a design method that uses a virtual resonant mode in head-positioning systems of hard disk drives ...

From Lyapunov modes to their exponents for hard disk systems [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review E, 2010
We demonstrate the preservation of the Lyapunov modes by the underlying tangent space dynamics of hard disks. This result is exact for the zero modes and correct to order $ $ for the transverse and LP modes where $ $ is linear in the mode number. For sufficiently large mode numbers the dynamics no longer preserves the mode structure.

Perturbative QCD at finite temperature and density [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
This is a comprehensive review on the perturbative hot QCD including the recent developments. The main body of the review is concentrated upon dealing with physical quantities like reaction rates. Contents: \S1. Introduction, \S2.

Semi-inclusive B Decays and Direct CP Violation in QCD Factorization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We have systematically investigated the semi-inclusive B decays B->MX, which are manifestations of the quark decay b->Mq, within the framework of QCD-improved factorization.

The Modular Circuitry of Apicomplexan Cell Division Plasticity

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2021
The close-knit group of apicomplexan parasites displays a wide variety of cell division modes, which differ between parasites as well as between different life stages within a single parasite species. The beginning and endpoint of the asexual replication

A General Effective Theory for Dense Quark Matter

open access: yes, 2004
A general effective action for quark matter at nonzero temperature and/or nonzero density is derived. Irrelevant quark modes are distinguished from relevant quark modes, and hard from soft gluon modes, by introducing two separate cut-offs in momentum ...

Extending Soft-Collinear-Effective-Theory to describe hard jets in dense QCD media

open access: yes, 2009
An extension to the Soft-Collinear-Effective Theory (SCET) description of hard jets is motivated to include the leading contributions between the propagating partons within the jet with partons radiated from a dense extended medium.

Classical Fields Near Thermal Equilibrium [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
We discuss the classical limit for the long-distance (``soft'') modes of a quantum field when the hard modes of the field are in thermal equilibrium.

Spectator interactions and factorization in B -> pi ell nu decay

open access: yes, 2003
We investigate the factorization of different momentum modes that appear in matrix elements for exclusive B meson decays into light energetic particles for the specific case of B -> pi form factors at large pion recoil.
