A gear pump based on harmonic gear drive

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part C: Journal of Mechanical Engineering Science, 2013
Aimed at solving the problems of radial fluid pressure imbalance, bigger flow ripple and shorter service life that exists in traditional gear pumps, a new type of gear pump based on the principle of harmonic gear drive is put forth, where the function for pumping fluid is achieved by mutual engagement between flexible gear and rigid gear.

Historical and Technical Analysis of Harmonic Drive Gear Design

Mechanisms and Machine Science, 2021
This paper presents a historical and technical analysis of the Harmonic Drive Gear Design by taking into consideration the original patent by Clarence Walton Musser, the inventor of “Strain Wave Gear” and by studying a performance evaluation of it. The main original design peculiarities are highlighted, and the main characteristics are outlined using a

Non-Linear Dynamic Modeling and Experiment of Harmonic Gear Drive

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2014
A non-linear torsional vibration model of harmonic gear drive is proposed in the current study. The model includes clearance, nonlinearity torsional stiffness and nonlinearity damping. The clearance model is developed by introducing the piecewise-linear displacement functions.

Modeling a harmonic drive gear transmission

[1993] Proceedings IEEE International Conference on Robotics and Automation, 2002
In order to capture the dynamic behavior of harmonic drives, dynamic models must include accurate representations of transmission friction, compliance, and kinematic error. Experimental observations are used to guide the development of a model to describe harmonic-drive operation.

Torsional rigidity of harmonic gear drives

Russian Engineering Research, 2016
A model is proposed for harmonic gear drives. The model takes into account that harmonic engagement involves multiple pairs and multiple zones and also takes account of the manufacturing and assembly errors, the deformation of the drive components, and the adjustment of the gaps in the engagement under load.

The Effects of Harmonic Drive Gears on Robot Dynamics

17th Design Automation Conference: Volume 2 — Computer-Aided Design, Mechanical Systems Simulation, and Analysis, Mechanisms, and Robotics, 1991
Abstract Mathematical models of the harmonic drive have been developed, and their effects on manipulator dynamics have been examined. The harmonic drive is modelled as a flexible gear with a high gear reduction ratio. The recursive Newton-Euler dynamic formulation is applied to deriving the system equations of motion that include the ...

Kinematics and Enumeration of Combined Harmonic Drive Gearing

Journal of Mechanical Design, 2015
The combined harmonic drive (HD) gearing is a class of differential gears composed of traditional and HD gears. In this paper, the kinematic analysis and enumeration of these less known gear devices are discussed. In particular, a new graph-based method of kinematic analysis has been developed.

On a Gearing Problem in Conventional Harmonic Drives With Involute Toothed Gear Set

Volume 8: 11th International Power Transmission and Gearing Conference; 13th International Conference on Advanced Vehicle and Tire Technologies, 2011
Circular pitches of flex spline teeth of a ‘Strain Wave Gearing’, also known as a ‘Harmonic Drive’, are deformed when the Strain Wave Generating Cam is inserted into the flex spline cup. In the present work the deformed pitch distances considering that flex spline teeth remain rigid while the rim deforms, are estimated.

Drives with harmonic gears for servo systems

Russian Engineering Research, 2016
Various drives with harmonic gear systems and generators of internal and external deformation waves are considered. A method of designing harmonic gear systems on the basis of dialog-based interactive software is outlined. A systems approach to the design of electromechanical servo-system drives improves the design quality and reduces the design time.
