An offline methodology is applied to estimate parameters of a convective gravity‐wave scheme using momentum flux (MF) observations from constant‐level balloons (left panels: pdfs of east and west MFs in green from observations and black from EnKF). The approach integrates an ensemble Kalman filter with an expectation‐maximization algorithm and permits ...

New Findings on Actual and Potential Trade between Romania and the Russian Federation: A Gravity Approach [PDF]
The paper attempts to verify the hypothesis that Romanian exports to the Russian Federation are below their potential. We first looked at statistical data regarding bilateral trade, custom duties and foreign direct investment; the resulting conclusions ...

Analysis of symmetrical components of harmonics for three phase power systems [PDF]
Includes bibliographical references.Harmonic distortion of three phase power systems is caused by large amounts of electric power consumers using power electronic installations (e.g. drives and rectifiers). It has a number of undesirable consequences and

Dynamics and thermodynamics of the fast and slow Madden–Julian Oscillation
The results of this study highlight the MJO as a complex phenomenon, the behavior of which is driven by an interplay of thermodynamic and dynamic processes. The MJO's distinct speeds are controlled by different mechanisms: slow MJOs propagate eastward primarily via horizontal moisture advection, fast MJOs by vertical moisture advection.

Camera traps are emerging as a useful tool for noninvasive insect monitoring; however, it remains unclear how to lure diurnal insects to traps, how to detect them upon arrival, and how camera‐based methods compare to conventional sampling. We developed a low‐cost, open‐source camera trap to monitor wild bumble bees in agricultural fields. We found that

The persistence of balance in geophysical flows [PDF]
This paper introduces a novel, powerful way to understand the why geophysical flows are largely under the control of a single scalar field, the potential vorticity, a materially conserved dynamical tracer in the absence of viscous and diabatic effects ...

ABSTRACT Ice accumulation on transmission lines poses a persistent threat to grid stability, yet precise technical guidance for the dynamic response during ice shedding under wind loads remains insufficient. In response to this issue, this study uses C++ to create a calculation program and obtains aerodynamic coefficients of ice‐covered conductors with
